SALEM, Va. - Gettysburg women's lacrosse junior midfielder Katie Fullowan continued to pick up postseason honors on Friday morning when she was named the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner for the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.

She became the third Bullet to win the award joining Nicole Ditillo in 2010 and Lindsay Menton in 2011.

The NCAA Elite 90 Award was launched during the 2009-10 academic year and honors the true essence of the student-athlete by celebrating the individual that has reached the highest level both on the field and in the classroom. The award is presented to the student-athlete that has the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the final site for each of the 90 NCAA Championships.

Fullowan, the mathematical economics major received the honor due to her outstanding 3.99 grade-point average during the 2021-22 academic year. Her dominance carried onto the field as she earned all-conference and All-American honors for her play after leading the Orange and Blue in draw controls with 80 in addition to racking up 59 goals (22 free-position) and 11 assists. She also contributed on the defensive end tracking down 24 groundballs and forcing ten turnovers.

"This award means so much to me" said Fullowan. "A major reason I chose to come to Gettysburg was because of both challenges I would face in academics and athletics, so to receive an award that encompasses both categories feels amazing" she added. "Having my name included alongside previous program recipients is amazing and would not have been possible without the help of everyone on this great team. Our coach emphasizes the importance of keeping the "student" alive in student-athlete so this speaks to our team culture and values. I am so thankful to be a Bullet!"

Her head coach Carol Cantele had high praise for her junior saying "we are super proud of Katie as she joins the best of the best. She has had tremendous success both academically and athletically and she represents our college so well!"

Fullowan and the rest of her teammates look to keep their season alive tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. when they take on Middlebury University in the National Semifinals at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Virginia.
