KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Stevens Institute of Technology captured its fifth straight Centennial Conference Wrestling Championship on Saturday at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, becoming just the second program in conference history to accomplish that feat. The Ducks totaled 83 points en route to the team crown.
The Ducks joined Ursinus as the only program to win five-straight Centennial Championships. Ursinus secured five straight titles from 2003-07.
Washington and Lee placed second with 61.5 points, followed closely by Merchant Marine (59) and Muhlenberg (58) in third and fourth, respectively. Gettysburg (51), Johns Hopkins (43.5), Ursinus (34.5), and McDaniel (18) rounded out the team scoring.
Stevens and Muhlenberg led the way with individual placings as each secured a trio of gold medalists. For the Ducks, Troy Stanich notched his third consecutive Centennial title, winning at 141 this season after back-to-back 133 crowns during his first two season. Brett Kaliner (149) and Dylan Van Sickell (157) repeated as champions, with each jumping up one weight class from last winter.
The Muhlenberg trio of Gennaro Cerminara (197), Dylan Schwartz (165), and Jimmy Fratantoni (174) grabbed gold for the Mules. Cerminara was a repeat champion at 197.
Johns Hopkins' Ricky Cavallo was named the championship's Most Outstanding Wrestler after registering a pair of falls and a decision victory in the finals en route to the 133-pound title.
Gettysburg's Paul Triandafilou, who won his third-straight 285 title, also received the Chris Clifford Award, given out to wrestler for the most career points in the championship.
Other individual champions included Merchant Marine's Josh Glantzman (184) and Ursinus' Collin Wickramaratna (125) earned his second-straight Centennial gold after claiming the 174 title last year.
Washington and Lee posted its best finish ever in the Centennial championship for the second straight season with its second-place finish.
Ursinus still leads all Centennial schools with 57 champions since 1994. McDaniel is second (43), followed by Muhlenberg (42), Stevens (35), Merchant Marine (30), Gettysburg (24), Johns Hopkins (24), Swarthmore (2), Washington and Lee (2) and NYU (1).
