GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg's women's soccer team is headed back to the postseason for the first time in three years thanks to a 3-0 victory over visiting Muhlenberg College at Clark Field Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (12-6, 7-3 CC) secured the fourth seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament and will host Ursinus College (10-6, 6-4 CC) in the opening round on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at a time to be determined on Monday. Jordann Smak (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) just outside the box, with the senior ending the play with a shot over Toher's hands into the goal at 41:46. Smak became the 16th different Bullet to score a goal this fall, breaking the old school record set in 1998 and tied in 2000.
The hosts dominated play in the in the final stanza with several shots on goal, including a corner kick by sophomore
Suzy Englot (Fayetteville, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) that was prevented from going into the cage by a Mule defender guarding the far post. Gettysburg's second score followed another corner by Englot as sophomore
Mackenzie Cobb (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) booted in a loose ball in front of the net at 67:39.
After just missing a goal earlier in the contest, Englot capped the match with another corner kick and this time no one could stop the ball as it settled into the far left corner of the goal with 1:58 left to play in the contest.
Gettysburg finished with a 19-9 edge in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
Cobb, Englot, sophomores
Casey Attanasio (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), and
