Swarthmore Falls Short in NCAA Sweet 16

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- No. 12-ranked Swarthmore College Women's Soccer fell 2-0 at No. 3 Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Garnet (17-3-2) took nine shots in the game, just four less than the Panthers (17-1-3). However, nine of Middlebury's shots were on goal, and they scored in the 62nd and 84th minutes.

Senior goalie Amy Shmoys made a season-high seven saves in the match.

The loss marks the end of a collegiate playing career for Smhoys and fellow seniors Melissa CurranCaroline CoatsMarin McCoy and Yasmeen Namazie. The five of them were a part of four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, during which the Garnet won a game each time. The team's record was 65-14-6 during their four years. They each won two Centennial Conference titles.

McCoy amassed Swarthmore records with 57 goals, 35 assists and 149 points during her career. She's third in Centennial history in points, tied for second in assists and tied for fourth in goals.

The Garnet will return to the pitch in 2019 looking to win a third straight conference title and make their sixth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
