Complete CoSIDA Academic All-America Team
Senior captain Carly Lupton-Smith of the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team has been named a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American it was announced today. Hopkins has now had 14 Academic All-Americans in program history with 10 of those coming this decade.
The Division III Academic All-America program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division III Academic All-America teams. Combining all three teams, the 33 women's athletes combined for a 3.96 GPA.
Lupton-Smith caps off an impressive career with another honor, as the Cary, NC native holds a 3.98 GPA with majors in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Psychology. On the field, Lupton-Smith was a senior leader, playing over 1,900 minutes while starting every contest. Lupton-Smith played a crucial role in the Blue Jays midfield, scoring goals in wins over New York University and Muhlenberg in 2019.
For her career, Lupton-Smith played in 86 career games, starting 65 of them. She was a mainstay in the starting lineup for the last three seasons and put up career totals of four goals and six assists. Reaching the NCAA Tournament in all four of her seasons at Hopkins, Lupton-Smith is one of three Blue Jays with at least three assists in the NCAA's.
Off the field, the resume for the team captain is even more impressive. She won the Naddor Prize from the JHU Department of Applied Math & Statistics in 2019 and is currently a Research Assistant with Dr. Elizabeth Stuart at the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health. In this role, Lupton-Smith performed Lasso regression to determine key predictors of weight loss in an interventon given to participants with severe mental illnesses.
She is currently the Assistant New Member Director with Phi Mu (Gamma Tau Chapter) and is a Captains Cohort Member with Blue Jays LEAD. Her current resume also includes acting as a Course Assistant for the Center for Leadership Education at JHU.
The senior North Carolinian has interned with UNC's Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment as an Applied Statistics Intern and also with the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education and Research (CIPhER).
