Swimming Takes Care of McDaniel, Improves to 3-0

Bullets Improve to 2-0 in Centennial Conference

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College swimming teams pushed their records to 3-0 and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference with a sweep of McDaniel College Wednesday evening at the Gettysburg College Bullets Pool.

The men's team won 10 of 11 events en route to a 122-55 victory while the women's team captured six events and earned a 103-80 win.

Leading the men's team was junior Drew Close, who won both the 200-free (1:48.87) and the 500-free (4:58.98). Other individual victories were turned in by junior Tom Everett in the 50-free (22.60), junior Roger Nawrocki in the 400-IM (4:29.30), freshman Adam Weinbrom in the 100-fly (54.95), junior Matt Libby in the 100-free (54.95), and junior Pat McDevitt in the 100-back (56.69). In addition, the men's 200-free relay team of junior Cam Decker, senior Stephen Stopenski, junior Paul Besancon, and senior Kyle Bauer finished first in 1:33.74, although the event was exhibitioned.

The women's team received double-win performances by freshman Ali Roth in the 200-free (2:04.17) and the 100-fly (1:02.97) and junior Caroline Coolidge in the 400-IM (4:49.97) and the 500-free (5:22.85). Also touching the wall first were senior Susannah Ferrer in the 100-free (56.41) while the 200-free relay team of Coolidge, senior Maggie Mulderrig, sophomore Deirdre Purdy, and Roth won in 1:41.47 in an event that was also exhibitioned.

The women's team returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Bryn Mawr College for another Centennial Conference meet beginning at 1 p.m. Both teams will host Ursinus College on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. in another conference match-up.
