SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Capturing its second consecutive doubles sweep, the Swarthmore College women's tennis team (3-6, 2-0 CC) remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference action with a 7-2 win against Washington College from Faulkner Courts on Tuesday, April 1.
At No. 1 doubles, senior
Lia Carlson and freshman
Alli Wong battled with April Weaver and Marielle McIntyre. After falling behind early in the match, Carlson and Wong fought to level the score at 8-8 before winning in a tight tiebreak, 9-7.
At No. 2 and 3 doubles, the Swarthmore women did not concede a game, winning both matches 8-0. At No. 2, seniors
Katie Samuelson and
Brooke Wilkins defeated Amy Stevens and Emily Evans, while junior
Gayatri Iyengar and sophomore
Jackie Lane dominated at No. 3 against Trish Valario and Monica Benitez.
In singles, Iyengar, Wilkins, Lane, and senior
Epiphany English earned straight-set victories. At No. 3, Iyengar beat Evans 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 4, Wilkins downed Stevens 6-1, 6-1.
Rounding out the singles lineup, Lane and English only dropped one game in their two matches. Lane picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 and English shut out Benitez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Swarthmore continues Centennial Conference play at Muhlenberg on Friday, April 4. The match will begin at 4:30 p.m.
