Key Losses: (4) Emily Gruenberg, 2nd team All-CC doubles, 10-10.

Russo was a first-team All-CC singles selection a year ago and will be joined at the top of the ladder by Wolters and Rummeslburg. Rubenstein and Breece were an honorable mention All-CC doubles team last spring. Don't sleep on the Diplomats' chances to return to the final four in 2017.

Maria Martinovic, Gettysburg

Gettysburg (6-12 overall, 4-6 Centennial, T-6th place)
Head Coach: Andy Knox (Savannah Art & Design '98), 2nd season at Gettysburg (6-12), 7th overall

Top Newcomers: Samantha Boardman; Maddy Class; Emily Simonds.

Key Losses: none.

Outlook: The Bullets welcome back their entire lineup from a squad that just fell short of their first-ever Centennial playoff berth. Martinovic and Gradiska are a potent 1-2 at the top of the ladder. Simonds and Boardman should make an immediate impact. Gettysburg could contend for a postseason spot this spring.

Abby Payson, Haverford

Haverford (7-9 overall, 4-6 Centennial, T-6th place)

Team Page | Roster | Schedule | Last Year's Statistics

Key Players Returning: (2) Greta Koch, Jr., 9-9; (3) Abby Payson, Sr., 7-8; (3) Jia-Ling Tuan, Jr., 4-8; (4) Courtney Ahmed, Jr., 8-13; Jessica Liu, Sr., 2-1;

Top Newcomers: Emily Shutman (Huntington HS, N.Y.); Ali Morrow (Sehome HS, Wash.)

Key Losses: (1) Robyn Himelstein, 1st team All-CC singles, 13-9; (5) Caroline Steliotes 7-12.

Outlook: The Fords welcome a new coach in their quest to return to the Centennial playoffs this spring. Koch and Payson are the top returnees, but look for Shutman and Morrow to step into the top of the lineup. Haverford is always a playoff contender and 2017 should prove no different.

Ashnaa Rao, Johns Hopkins

Johns Hopkins (18-5 overall, 10-0 Centennial, d. Washington College 5-0 in final, lost to Middlebury 5-1 in NCAA regional semifinal)

Playoff Appearances (11): 2006-07-08-09-10-11-12-13-14-15-16
Preseason Poll Projection: 1st

Key Players Returning: (1) Ashnaa Rao, Sr., 15-6; (2) Megumi Chen, Jr., 1st team All-CC singles, 12-7; (3) Jody Law, Sr., 5-7; (3) Chrissy Simon, Soph., CC Rookie of Year, 12-0; (5) Anna Kankanala, Sr., 2nd team All-CC singles, 10-0; Mikey Barthelmass, Sr., 4-1; Sunaina Vohra, Jr., 12-3; Kimberly Zou, Soph., HM All-CC singles, 12-3; Caroline Greydak, Jr., 9-3; Amanda Soo Ping Chow, Sr., 5-1.

Regional Rankings: Rao (#2 singles), Strickland (#6 singles), Law (#22 singles), Barthelmass/Rao (#2 doubles); Kankanala/Zou (#5 doubles).

Key Losses: Olivia Kasten, 8-0

Outlook: When you have won 10 consecutive Conference championships, you have the right to be called the perennial favorite. When you return the talent that the Blue Jays have, you have earned it. Rao is one of the top players in Division III, while Chen is a returning first-team All-CC selection. Simon was named CC Rookie of the Year, while Kankanala was a second-team All-CC singles choice. Add to the mix Strickland, who is ranked in the top-25 nationally, and Hop could easily run the table once again.

Winsome Schauer, McDaniel

McDaniel (2-14 overall, 0-10 Centennial, 11th place)

Head Coach: Linda Andrews (Springfield '68), 33rd season, 222-191 (.538)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | Last Year's Statistics
Centennial Titles (2): 2002-04
Playoff Appearances (5): 2006-08-09-11-14
Preseason Poll Projection: 9th

Key Players Returning: (2) Jamie Rosenblum, Sr., 6-6; (3) Brittany Gould, Sr., 5-11; (4) Meghan Olsen, Soph., 5-12; (6) Jourdyn Buckheit, Soph., 1-7.

Top Newcomers: Shelby Knafo (Parkland HS, Pa.)

Key Losses: (1) Sara Finger, 1st team All-CC, CC Player of Year, 14-3; (5) Jenny Levenson 6-8.

Outlook: Andrews is coaching in her final season with the Mules and her squad would like nothing more than to send her out on a winning note. Rosenblum and Gould will need to step up their game if 'Berg is to contend for a playoff berth.

Julia Gokhberg, Swarthmore

Swarthmore (9-7 overall, 8-2 Centennial, 3rd place, lost to Washington College in CC semifinal, 5-1)

Preseason Poll Projection: 3rd

Key Players Returning: (1) Julia Gokhberg, Soph., 2nd team All-CC singles, 7-13; (2) Alli Wong, Sr., HM All-CC singles, 1st team All-CC doubles, 7-8; (3) Arya Jemal, Soph., 10-11; (4) Anna Scheibmeier, Jr., 12-8; (5) Rachel Bronkema, Jr., 11-7; (6) Rachel Hechinger, Soph., 10-3; (6) Maria Cuervo, Jr., 1st team All-CC doubles, 3-2.

Top Newcomers: Emma Kassan (Fieldston School, N.Y.); Shirline Wee (Cerritos HS, Calif.); Vivien Fernandez (Ranson Everglades, Fla.); Nicole Khorosh (Poly Prep, N.Y.).

Regional Rankings: Kassan (#23 singles)

Key Losses: none.

Outlook: The Garnet got back to the Centennial playoffs after a year's absence and has the talent to reach the final in 2017. Wong and Cuervo earned first-team All-CC doubles honors, while Gokhberg was a 2nd team All-CC singles selection as a rookie. The bottom half of the ladder all posted winning records a year ago and Kassan should make an immediate impact. Look for Swarthmore to make a lot of noise in the Conference this season.

Ursinus (11-7 overall, 4-6 Centennial, T-6th place)
Head Coach: Pete Smith (Ursinus '91), 3rd season, 25-14 (.642)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | Last Year's Statistics

Key Losses: (2) BreAnna Bashaw, 2nd team All-CC doubles, 14-6; (6) S.J. Seabra 7-5.

Outlook: The Bears posted their second consecutive winning record but fell short of their goal of returning to the Conference playoffs. Four of the top six players from a year ago return, led by 2nd team All-CC singles selection Bevard. Sorelle should make an immeidate impact to the ladder. Ursinus will contend for a postseason spot this spring.

Julie Lazer, Washington College

Washington College (14-4 overall, 9-1 Centennial, lost to Johns Hopkins in CC final, 5-0)
Head Coach: Jason Ringstad (Stevens '11), 2nd season (14-4, .778)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | Last Year's Statistics
All-Time Record: 350-268-2 since 1975
Centennial Titles (1): 2002
Playoff Appearances (9): 2006-07-08-09-11-12-13-15-16

Key Losses: (1) April Weaver, 1st team All-CC singles/doubles, 13-5; (5) Blair Kang 9-2; Marielle McIntyre, 1st team All-CC doubles.

Outlook: The Shorewomen have reached the Centennial final in each of the last two seasons, only to run into the Hopkins' buzzsaw. The pieces are in place to make another run to the playoffs, but a finals run depends on replacing Weaver. Lazer was a first-team All-CC singles and doubles selection, while Martinez also earned All-CC honors. Washington College has become a perennial playoff contender and should be again in 2017.
