LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Anjali Devireddy and Ali Bader swept the major player awards to highlight a conference-leading group of seven Blue Jays on the 2021 All-Centennial Women's Tennis Team.
Devireddy was named Player of the Year after going 6-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles in conference play, primarily from the No. 1 spots. The sophomore posted straight-set wins in all of her CC singles matches, dropping just 12 games along the way. In doubles, she teamed with Emily Javedan for five matches at No. 1 and two at No. 2, losing just three total games through their six matches. This marks the third-straight year at Hopkins player earned the conference's top honor as Player of the Year, and sixth time overall.
Bader secured Rookie of the Year honors for JHU, becoming the fourth Blue Jay in the eight-year history of the award to nab the CC award for the top newcomer. She posted a 5-0 singles mark and 7-0 doubles record throughout the regular season, only dropping two games in CC singles play and one game in CC doubles with partner Dhanya Asokumar. Bader played No. 2, 3 and 4 singles for JHU and mostly at the No. 3 doubles position.
Washington College head coach Oliver Reynolds was chosen by his fellow coaches at Coach of the Year after leading the Shorewomen to a 5-2 conference record and third-place finish in the standings. It is the first COTY honor for Reynolds and the second time a Washington College head coach received the award.
Devireddy was joined on the All-CC singles and doubles first teams by Anji Kashyap and Sophia Strickland, both repeat all-stars. Kashyap was the CC Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019 and becomes a three-time All-CC honoree. Stickland also becomes a three-time all-conference performer. Emily Javedan earned first team doubles accolades along with Devireddy, while the Kashyap-Strickland duo were also first-team doubles selections.
Asokumar and Jessica Liang collected second team singles awards for JHU, while Bader and Asokumar were named honorable mention as a doubles pair to round out the Hopkins honorees.
Dickinson and Washington College each secured three spots on the All-CC squad. Irene Meng led Washington College as a first-teamer in both singles and doubles. Alisha White earned first team doubles honors along with Meng, and was also named to the honorable mention singles team. Ella Samer was named second team singles for the second time in her career for the Shorewomen.
Martine Fierro led the Dickinson trio of all-stars as a first-team singles and second-team doubles pick. Ariana Goitz and Hanna Butler earned second team singles spots for the Red Devils, with Goitz joining Fierro on the doubles second team.
Cassidy Landau and Sammi Perry represented Franklin & Marshall on the All-CC team, with Landau named first team singles, Perry second team singles, and the duo combining for second team doubles honors.
The Ursinus doubles pairing of Maddie Russell and Cara Freedman were named to the All-CC second team, the second career all-conference honors for both players.
