Blue Jays Land Atop Women's Tennis Preseason Poll

LANCASTER, Pa. – Fourteen-time defending chamion Johns Hopkins has been selected as the favorite to repeat in the 2022 Centennial Conference Women's Tennis Preseason Poll. The Blue Jays tallied all nine possible first-place votes and 81 points to land atop the voting among CC head coaches.

Swarthmore placed second in the poll with 73 points and the other first-place vote, while Haverford (64), Franklin & Marshall (54), and Washington College (52) were also projected as playoff teams in third through fifth, respectively.

Dickinson took sixth in the rankings at 37 points, with Gettysburg (34), Ursinus (26), Bryn Mawr (15) and Muhlenberg (14) rounding out the voting.

Two Centennial squads begin their spring schedules this weekend, while all 10 teams will open up spring competition by mid-March. The majority of conference play will take place in late March through the end of April, with the CC Tournament set for May 4-7-8.

2022 Schedule | 2021 Results2021 All-Centennial Team

The 2021 Centennial women's tennis season was anything but typical, but one thing did remain the same - Johns Hopkins remained on top by capturing its 14th straight conference title. The Blue Jays earned the CC crown via a perfect 7-0 conference regular season, as no conference tournament was held due to a limited schedule because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Jays earned a first-round bye and defeated Cairn 5-0 in round two before falling to Tufts, 5-2, in the Sweet 16. JHU's Anjie Kashyap qualified for the NCAA singles championship, advancing to the round of 16 before falling to the No. 6 seed. Kashyap's first round victory was the first for a Centennial player in NCAA singles since JHU's Ashnaa Rao in 2017.

A total of 14 players who have earned all-conference honors throughout their careers return to the court this spring. Hopkins leads the way with four returning all-stars, headlined by reigning CC Player of the Year Anjali Devireddy. Other Blue Jay All-CC performers include two-time honoree Jessica Liang, 2021 Rookie of the Year Ali Bader, and Emily Javedan.

Despite not competing during the 2021 season, Swarthmore still welcomes back a trio of All-CC players that earned accolades in 2019. The list includes Sonia Varma, the 2019 Rookie of the Year, along with Christina Wang and Sophie Brown.

Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall and Washington College each welcome back two All-CC players apiece. F&M's Cassidy Landau and Sammi Perry look to lead the way again this spring for the Diplomats after earning both singles and doubles honors last spring. Dickinson's duo of Martine Fierro and Ariana Goitz also received both singles and doubles awards last spring, as did Washington's College's Irene Meng and Alisha White. White is a two-time All-CC performer.

Ursinus' Maddie Russell has earned all-conference recognition each of the last two full seasons (2021 & 2019), joining JHU's Liang and Washington College's White as players with multiple All-CC honors to their name entering 2022.
