Regional Award Winners | All-Region Team
The Johns Hopkins women's indoor track & field was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as Hopkins swept the indoor season's regional awards. Maya Hammonds was named the Mideast Region field athlete of the year, Caelyn Reilly earned track athlete of the year, Bobby Van Allen collected coach of the year for the seventh time in his career, and assistant coach Maura Linde earned assistant coach of the year accolades.
Additionally, 19 Centennial Conference athletes landed on the all-region squad, led by 13 from Hopkins. Dickinson placed four on the all-region team, while Muhlenberg and Swarthmore each earned one spot. The 13 Hopkins' athletes received laurels in 22 different events.
A junior from Bay Shore, N.Y., Reilly will contest the 5000 meters at the NCAA Championships and finished the regular season ranked in the division’s top five in the event and the 3000. She won Centennial Conference Championship titles in both events.
Hammonds, a senior from New Hartford, N.Y., is entered in the NCAA Championships in the pentathlon and long jump. The conference- and school-record long jump of 19-½ (5.80m) ranks No. 3 in the division. She won the Centennial Conference title in the pentathlon with a score of 3403 and scored 44 team points in the league meet, adding a long jump crown and runner-up showing in the high jump.
In his 20th year as Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field, Van Allen led the Blue Jays to the top ranking in the Mideast Region and a top-20 national ranking heading into this weekend’s NCAA Championships. Johns Hopkins won the Centennial Conference championships with 249.5 points and has seven qualifiers for this weekend’s Championships.
Linde, in her second year as Assistant Track & Field Coach at Johns Hopkins, coached five national qualifiers in two events during the indoor season, including Caelyn Reilly, who ranks in the top five nationally in both the 3000 meters and 5000 meters. Linde’s athletes rank in the top five in the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings in every event from the 800 meters to the 5000 meters. Linde coaches middle distance and distance events for the Blue Jays.
