JHU's Baran Earns National Athlete of the Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS - Johns Hopkins senior distance athlete Ella Baran was named the Division III National Athlete of the Week it was announced today by the USTFCCCA. Baran is the first Blue Jay since 2017 to earn the national honor. 

Baran continued a superb 2021 calendar year with a fantastic start to the Indoor Track & Field season on Friday at the Fast Track Season Opener. Baran finished the 3000 Meter run in 9:36.90, winning the event by nearly 39-seconds and posting the fastest 3000 Meter time of the weekend by nearly 27 seconds. Her time is the 15th-fastest in Division III history and the third-fastest in Johns Hopkins program history. 

This is another accolade for Baran who earned a pair of runner-up finishes at NCAA Outdoors in the spring and recently finished in the top-10 at the Cross Country Championships in Louisville. Baran was also named Track Athlete of the Week by the Centennial Conference for her efforts this weekend.
