CoSIDA Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

AUSTIN, TX – Johns Hopkins' seniors Rebecca Grusby and Andrew King have been named to the Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Grusby was named to the women's third team, while King earned a spot on the men's second team.

To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, be a sophomore or above and a starter or significant reserve.

Grusby is the ninth CoSIDA Academic All-American in Johns Hopkins women's cross country/track history and seven of the nine have come since 2013.
A member of three national championship cross country teams, Grusby wrapped up her cross country career with a 21st-place finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships to help the Blue Jays to their sixth national title since 2012; Grusby was a member of national championship teams as a freshman, sophomore and senior with a runner-up finish her junior year.  The 21st-place showing, which earned her All-America honors, was the best in four appearances at the NCAAs for Grusby.

During Johns Hopkins' current run of six NCAA titles in the last eight years, Grusby is one of just five individuals to compete in three title-winning races.

Grusby added All-America honors this year in indoor track as qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships in the 3000-meter run.  She was also a member of the Blue Jays' first-place DMR team and runner-up 4x800-meter relay team at the 2020 Centennial Conference Indoor Track Championships.

Grusby graduated with a 3.79 cumulative GPA and a degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering.  The 2018 Centennial Conference Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she served as a research and development intern at Becton Dickson, was an undergraduate research assistant with the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute and was also a teaching assistant in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

King is the sixth athlete in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and the first since Joshua Baker was a first team selection in 2013.

A two-time Academic All-District selection, King graduated last month with degrees in physics and applied math and statistics. He completed his career with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. He earned All-America honors this winter after qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 3,000-meter. In the fall, King finished fifth at the Centennial Conference Championship while helping the Blue Jay cross country team claim their first title since 2013.

Away from the track, King has built an impressive resume. He spent time as an intern with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab and worked as a learning assistant with the Department of Physics and Astronomy. In addition, King was a researcher with the Institute for Data Intensive Engineering and Science.
