HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 25-ranked Haverford College volleyball team etched its name in Centennial Conference history becoming just the third four-peat ever with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-22) victory over Gettysburg College Sunday afternoon. Haverford fed off the momentum of a dominating first set and played nearly perfect in its biggest match of the season.

Haverford (30-3) hit to the tune of a .364 percentage and totaled 51 kills. On the defensive end the Fords had 52 digs and placed four players in double-figures for the third consecutive match.

Rebecca Salvo led the way with 15 kills and a .419 hitting percentage. Kelsey Cantwell had another strong offensive performance, hitting .385 with 13 kills. Jenine Abbassi added nine kills while hitting .375. Kate Comey kept the offense running smoothly all match with 45 assists. Franny Glick led the defense with 13 digs while Rachel and Rebecca Salvo had 11 each and Cantwell had 10.

Gettysburg (19-9) did not have one player reach double-digits in kills and hit just .196 as a team. Kristina Mercier led the attack with nine kills. Amanda Krampf had 24 assists to go along with 11 digs. Kristin Kotewicz led the Bullets with 13 digs.

The Fords hit .448 in the first set and did not let up the rest of the way. An early Gettysburg lead in the second set turned the Fords’ way at 13-12 thanks to consecutive kills by Olivia Coburn-Flynn and Rachel Salvo and the Scarlet and Black led the remainder of the way.

The Bullets refused to go quietly in the third set as evidenced by six tied scored and three lead changes. Early on the score went back-and-forth until four straight Haverford points put them up, 19-14. The lead extended to 23-15, but that is when the Bullets made one last run. Seven straight points thanks to four kills from Mercier made the score 23-21, but Cantwell ended any thought of a fourth set with two kills.

Haverford’s destination and opponent for the NCAA Regional will be determined Monday at 11 a.m. Fans can watch the NCAA Volleyball Division III Selection Show live online (requires Microsoft Silverlight plug-in) at NCAA-TV.
