CoSIDA Academic All-America Release
McDaniel senior Taylor Bauman and Johns Hopkins junior Louisa Kishton have been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America team. Bauman collected first team honors while Kishton was selected to the third team.
To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
Bauman earned her second nod to the team with a 4.0 GPA as of the end of the spring semester. Bauman was one of seven players selected to the first team. The biology major advanced to the national ballot after being named to the all-district team on Nov. 15. A second-team Academic All-American in 2017, Bauman is McDaniel's first two-time Academic All-American in volleyball.
A libero, Bauman finished the season with 532 digs for her second straight season of 500-plus digs. She set the program record for career digs with 1,975. She also added 36 aces this season.
A four-time all-conference selection that includes an honorable mention nod this season, she led the Green Terror (23-9, 7-3 CC) into the conference championship match and to the finals of the ECAC Division III tournament.
She was named to the CC Academic Honor Roll each of the last three seasons and was the CC Scholar Athlete of the Year both as a junior and senior. The captain has been named to the Dean's List in each of the previous six semesters and was tabbed to the McDaniel Green and Gold Honor Roll the last two years. In the College's Honors program, she is a member of Alpha Lamba Delta, Tri-Beta and Phi Beta Kappa.
JHU's Kishton, who was named all-district last year, becomes the first Blue Jay to earn All-America honors as JHU has produced 15 academic all-district recipients.
On the court, Kishton led Johns Hopkins with 49 service aces and 382 digs and ranked second on the team with 302 kills. She tallied a career-high 21 kills and 27 digs against Arcadia this season as she posted 13 double-doubles on the year to lead the team. She also registered a career-best six service aces against Goucher in the opening match of the season.
In the classroom, Kishton is a chemical and biomolecular engineering major with a minor in global environmental change and sustainability. She has a 3.97 GPA and interned at Nirmidas Biotech where she designed, performed and analyzed experiments. The junior was also a team leader as Camp Galileo: Innovation Camps for Kids and has coached middle school volleyball. She is also the secretary for JHU's Voice for Choice where she works with board members to plan events and manages secretarial duties.
Johns Hopkins posted a 22-8 record to secure the program's 16th straight winning season as JHU won the Centennial Conference title for the third consecutive year. The Blue Jays also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
