Probst, Power Named POW

Probst, Power Named POW

Senior Rich Power (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and junior outfielder Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) of the Gettysburg College baseball team have swept the Centennial Conference's weekly awards, it was announced Monday.

Power was tabbed as the conference's Pitcher of the Week while Probst earned CC Player of the Week recognition.

It was the second week in a row that the Bullets collected both honors, as junior pitcher Brad DeMartino (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and senior catcher Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) were recognized a week ago.

Power tossed a four-hit shutout and tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts without walking a batter in Gettysburg's 11-0 victory over Penn State York. It was the third career shutout for the left-hander but his first that went nine innings.

For the season, Power (2-1) ranks fourth in the Centennial Conference in strikeouts (29) and seventh in ERA (2.08 ERA).

Probst turned in an outstanding week at the plate in a 5-1 week for the Bullets, hitting .522 (12-for-23) and smacking four home runs, including a pair of grand slams, while posting a 1.261 slugging percentage. His biggest day came in an 11-0 win over Penn State York, when he equaled an NCAA Division III and Centennial Conference record with two grand slams. His two homers and eight RBIs also tied Gettysburg records. Probst also went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple in a 10-0 win over Penn State Altoona, and he capped the week by homering in both ends of a doubleheader split at Penn State Berks. Probst has batted safely in all 19 games this season and is riding a 22-game hitting streak, dating back to last season.

Among the Centennial Conference leaders, Probst is ranked in numerous categories, including home runs (first, 5), slugging (first, .848), batting average (second, .494), triples (tied for second, 3), RBIs (third, 19), on-base percentage (fourth, .535), doubles (tied-fourth, 7), and stolen bases (tied for seventh, 7).
