BALTIMORE, MD. – Senior catcher Alex Darwiche of the Johns Hopkins baseball team has been named to the ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Mid-Atlantic team as announced today. Darwiche is the 66th JHU player to be honored by the ABCA and he is the 30th payer that Hopkins has placed on the first team. The senior captain also became the sixth Blue Jay catcher to make the team and is the fourth to earn first team laurels. This is the fourth straight season Johns Hopkins has had at least one player named to an All-Region team. 

The Kennesaw, GA native also earned first team honors from the Centennial Conference and D3baseball.com marking the second straight season a JHU catcher has been named to the first team for the conference, D3baseball and ABCA joining Ryan Orgielewicz who achieved the feat last season. 

Darwiche capped a stellar senior season going 48-141 for a career-best batting average of .340. He also hit a career-high eight home runs and knocked a career-high 32 RBI. He also went a career-best 5-7 in stolen bases this season. He hit .367 with runners in scoring position and knocked in 10 RBI and hit .318 with two-out and notched nine two-out RBI. He was the team leader with a .445 on-base percentage and total bases with 80. Behind the plate, he started 36 games and threw out 12 runners and committed just two errors. The senior captain also had 12 multiple hit games and seven games in which he registered two or more RBI. He also had an 11-game hitting streak during the season and ended the season on a six-game hitting streak. 


LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's Dan Marano was named to the 2018 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic All-Region Third Team, as well as the D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team. The Diplomats' first baseman garnered the second All-Region distinction of his career after also landing on the ABCA Third Team in 2015.

Marano (Maple Shade, N.J. / Bishop Eustace)continues to add to his impressive list of offseason accolades, also being named the program's first Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Year since 2006 after leading all Conference batters with a .411 average, while his on-base percentage of .452 was good for fourth, and his 43 RBIs ranked second.

He also earned the second All-CC First Team honor of his career after Marano was named to the First Team and was selected as the Rookie of the Year in 2015. His 62 total hits were the third highest in program single-season history and the most since 2006. 

Marano registered multiple hits in 16 contests and tied a CC single-game record with a 6-for-6 effort against Drew on April 19th. Marano was outstanding in the field as well with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, not committing an error in 295 total chances.

His list of awards in 2018 extended past the field as well when Marano was also named to the CoSIDA 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team earlier in May.


HAVERFORD, Pa. -  Haverford College junior outfielder Ethan Lee-Tyson was named to D3Baseball.com Third-team All-Mid-Atlantic honors, the organization announced in a release on Monday afternoon. The award represents the sixth straight season that a Haverford player has been bestowed All-Region honors from D3Baseball. Lee-Tyson becomes the first back-to-back honoree since Tommy Bergjans '15 made three consecutive All-Region appearances. 

Lee-Tyson takes home All-Region honors from D3Baseball for the second straight season, repeating the postseason honor in the 2018 campaign after a season in which he registered a slash line of .379/.451/.517, Lee-Tyson started all 36 contests for the Fords. He ranked third in the Centennial Conference in batting average (.372) and hits (60). Lee-Tyson was second in the Centennial Conference in runs scored (40) and fifth in on-base percentage (.451).

Lee-Tyson was one of the hardest hitters in the nation to strike out this season, with just 10 strikeouts in 145 at-bats.  On the basepaths, Lee-Tyson helped pace the high octane Fords running game with 16 steals in 19 attempts. Through his third season at Haverford, The Weston, Conn. product sits in the top five in program history in career batting average (.376) and total bases (250). Lee-Tyson's 55 hits in 2018 was the 10th-most in the single-season history of the program. 

The 2018 season marks the seventh year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to sports information directors, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.


SWARTHMORE, Pa. - D3Baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association each released their 2018 Mid-Atlantic All-Region Teams on Tuesday, and six members of the Swarthmore College Baseball team were listed among them.

D3Baseball.com named sixth-year head coach Matt Midkiff regional Coach of the Year. In 2018, he's led Swarthmore to its first Centennial Conference title and its first regional title in program history. The Garnet hadn't even made the conference tournament since 2010 or the NCAA Tournament since 1985. They'll begin competing at their first ever Division III Championship on Friday in Appleton, Wis.

Junior designated hitter Jackson Roberts was an all-region selection on both. He on the ABCA's first team, and D3Baseball.com tabbed him as an honorable mention.  Roberts leads Swarthmore with a .381 batting average and a .665 slugging percentage this year. His nine home runs are tied for the team lead and will go down as a program single-season record.

Junior starting pitcher Ricky Conti was also a first team honoree by the ABCA. His 12 wins are a Garnet single-season record. He only has two losses. His 1.94 ERA and .196 batting average against lead all Swarthmore starters.

Sophomore first baseman Cole Beeker garnered second team honors from the ABCA. He has a Swarthmore-record 64 RBIs in 2018, ranking him sixth in the country in that category. He has seven home runs and leads all Garnet position players with a .995 fielding percentage. His 19 stolen bases are also a team best.

Junior right fielder Charles Levitt, also with nine home runs, joins Beeker on the second team. Levitt's .463 on-base percentage and 51 runs scored are the best on the team.  He's been hit by a pitch 19 times this year, slotting him in a tie for fifth in the nation. Levitt is second on the team with a .657 slugging percentage.

Sophomore pitcher Sawyer Lake is an ABCA all-region honorable mention. Lake has a Swarthmore-best 64 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched. His 3.04 strikeout-to-walk ratio is also the best on the team.


COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College baseball standout Alex Mumme capped his stellar sophomore season with a spot on the D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region second team.

After consolidating a record-breaking rookie campaign with an impressive second act that saw him named to the All-Centennial Conference first team, Mumme becomes the first player in program history to earn all-region recognition from D3baseball.com. The website is in its seventh season of naming all-region teams.

Mumme was one of the most dangerous hitters in the region, tying the school record with eight home runs to tie for third in the conference and posting 32 RBI. He was second in the league in slugging percentage (.617), fourth in doubles (13) and total bases (87), seventh in batting average (.355), and ninth in RBI. Mumme was second on the team in hits (50), runs (37), and RBI and also stole four bases without being caught. He ended the season on a 17-game hitting streak, the second-longest in school history.

As a freshman, Mumme shattered the program record with 20 doubles despite missing 12 games, and his .417 average was fourth-highest for a single season school history.

An honorable mention All-CC performer in 2017, Mumme already sits second in program history with 33 doubles and is tied for fourth with 12 homers. He will enter his junior season with 93 hits on his ledger, putting him on pace to challenge the program mark of 198.
