Zwier and Roberti Honored

LANCASTER, Pa. – Washington College has swept the Centennial Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards for baseball for the week of March 12-18.  Junior pitcher Nick Roberti (New Fairfield, Conn,/New Fairfield) was tabbed the conference's pitcher of the week, while sophomore catcher Ryan Zwier (Newark, Del./Christ School [N.C.]) was selected as the player of the week by the Centennial.  Both players are first time recipients of the award.

Roberti pitched the 15th no-hitter in Centennial history in the Shoremen's 13-0 victory against Bethany on Friday in game two of the doubleheader.  He struck out four batters and did not allow a free pass, retiring the final 13 Bison hitters.  It was the first no-hitter tossed by Washington College since Shane Mattingly '12 and Matt Christopher tossed a combined no-hitter on March 4, 2012 versus CCNY in the first game of the twinbill in a game the Shoremen won 6-0.

Zwier, who had a hit in all eight games the Shoremen played in last week, hit .529 (14-of-27) with a home run, six doubles, five RBI and nine runs scored in a 7-1 week. He posted an on-base percentage of .548 and slugged .852 for a 1.400 OPS.  The sophomore had four multi-hit games, including two three-hit games and a pair of two-hit performances.

Roberti is the first Shoremen to win the pitcher of the week award since Billy Griffin '17 earned the week award on April 24, 2017 and Zwier is the first Washington player to earn the player of the week since Bryan Baquer '16 was selected on April 25, 2016.
