Three Named to D3football.com All-America Team

Chantz Anderson, Johns Hopkins

Jack Toner, Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins senior safety Jack Toner (Western Springs, IL/Benet Academy) and senior center Chantz Anderson (Abilene, TX/Abilene) have been named D3football.com Third Team All-Americans it was recently announced. D3football.com first selected an All-America Team in 1999 and the selection of Toner and Anderson this season gives Johns Hopkins a total of 17 all-time selections to the team.

Distinguishing the most decorated players in program history may be difficult, but Toner has certainly added his name to the discussion. His selection to the D3footall.com All-America Team comes one week after he was named a First Team AFCA All-American, which followed selections as a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America, First Team D3football.com All-South Region, Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Centennial Conference this season.

Toner posted 55 tackles, eight interceptions, four pass breakups and one fumble recovery in 2016. His eight interceptions tied the Johns Hopkins single-season record and he concludes his career with 188 tackles, 18 interceptions, 22 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries; his 18 interceptions rank second in school history.

Anderson is the latest in a long line of outstanding centers at Johns Hopkins and becomes the third Blue Jay center since 2010 to earn All-America honors as he joins Ed Rodger (2010) and Ben Cranston (2013) on this distinguished list. Anderson earned First Team D3football.com All-South Region and was a unanimous First Team All-Centennial selection this season as well.

Anderson was the only returning starter on the offensive line for the Blue Jays this season and helped lead the way for an offense that averaged 41.4 points and a school-record 510.1 yards per game. Despite a unit that featured the four new starters, Johns Hopkins allowed just 15 sacks in more than 500 pass attempts and set school records for passing yards (4,106) and touchdown passes (37) in 2016.

Johns Hopkins posted an 11-1 record, won an eighth straight Centennial Conference title and spent the entire 2016 season ranked in the top 15 in the nation. The Blue Jays made their sixth straight trip to the NCAA Division III Playoffs and advanced to the second round for the fourth time in five years.

During Toner and Anderson's career, the Blue Jays posted a 43-4 record and never lost a regular season game (40-0).

Nick Lamb, Muhlenberg

Muhlenberg senior Nick Lamb was named to D3football.com All-America third team as a kick returner.

Lamb ranked third in Division III with his average of 33.1 yards per kickoff return. He returned kickoffs for touchdowns against Susquehanna (91 yards) and Dickinson (95 yards), becoming only the third Mule to bring back multiple kickoffs for scores in the same season. Lamb was one of eight Division III players to score more than one touchdown on kickoff returns and the only one to do it in fewer than 15 returns.

The first Mule to earn All-America honors as a kick returner since 2001, Lamb was named first-team All-Centennial Conference at both kick returner and wide receiver. As a receiver, he caught a school-record 77 passes for 1,015 yards and 10 touchdowns and finished his three-year career as Muhlenberg's all-time leader with 195 receptions. At the close of the 2016 season, Lamb was eighth among active Division III players in both receptions per game (6.09) and receiving yards per game (78.5).

Lamb and senior offensive tackle Willie Britt - a first-team selection on the American Football Coaches Association team - combine to give Muhlenberg multiple All-Americans for the first time since 2008. Lamb is the 15th different Mule to earn All-America honors since 1999. At least one Muhlenberg player has earned All-America recognition in 13 of the last 18 years.

The Mules finished the 2016 season with a 9-2 record and earned their 13th postseason bid in the last 17 years.

Much credit for Lamb's two kickoff return touchdowns should also go to the other members of the return unit - Michael BlankMarco BlascoRyan DelaneyGeorge DiFioreFrankie FeasterJohn FeasterGerard GrimesMatt MusilliSean RobbinsTyler SmithMatthew StickneyKyle Wilczynski and Luke Wiley.
