Three Bullets Land All-CC Recognition

Three Bullets Land All-CC Recognition

LANCASTER, Pa. – Three members of the Gettysburg College football team gained All-Centennial Conference status for the first time in their careers on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Sophomore place-kicker Justin Geisel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day School) led the selections as a second-team honoree. The other two picks came from the defensive side as junior linebacker Jake Skinner (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and junior defensive back Mike McKnight (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) each earned honorable mention.

Geisel was selected as the league's second-best place-kicker after a strong second campaign with the Bullets. He booted in 9-of-15 field goals and 21-of-22 extra points to finish third in the conference with 48 kicking points. All but one of his field goals came from at least 31 yards, including a career-long 47-yarder against Susquehanna University. He finished one field goal shy of the program record with three against the River Hawks and his nine makes were the most by a Gettysburg kicker in seven years. Geisel also averaged 57.2 yards on kickoffs this fall.

A two-time CC Special Teams Player of the Week this season, Geisel has connected on 16-of-23 field goals in his career and already ranks fourth in program history in field goals made. Noteworthy, the sophomore did not play competitive football prior to arriving at Gettysburg.

Skinner copped his first postseason accolade after another big year on the defensive side. One year after leading the Bullets with 91 tackles, the junior tallied a team-best 109, including 61 solo stops. He finished second in the CC in both total tackles and tackles per game (10.9). Skinner also posted career highs with 8.5 tackles for a loss, three sacks, and three pass break-ups, while also notching a forced fumble. He turned in double-digit tackles in six games, including a streak of four to end the year. The junior racked up a season-high 16 stops against No. 21 Johns Hopkins University and he posted 13 tackles and 3.5 tackles for a loss against Muhlenberg College.

A two-year starter at inside linebacker, Skinner has totaled 211 tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss, and four sacks in his career.

McKnight produced an all-conference worthy season by playing both safety and cornerback at various points and finishing sixth in the conference with a career-high 83 tackles. The junior led the Centennial with 15 pass break-ups this fall, finishing one shy of the program record for a single season and he picked off three passes. McKnight's 18 passes defended marked the best total by a player at Gettysburg in 21 years. He turned in four games with 10 or more tackles, including a season-high 13 against both Juniata College and Muhlenberg College. He totaled five pass break-ups against Moravian College and he intercepted a pair of passes against Susquehanna.

McKnight has appeared in each of the last 23 games for the Bullets during which time he has accumulated 176 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, and defended 26 passes.

Two Bullets were also named to the CC All-Sportsmanship Team. Senior Dakota Brovero (Monroeville, N.J./Delsea) started all 10 games on the defensive line and finished with career highs for tackles (40), tackles for a loss (7.5), and sacks (5). Senior Andrew Major (St. Davids, Pa./Radnor) served as a team captain and racked up personal highs with 10 receptions, 124 yards, and two touchdowns at tight end. Major also set the program's all-time record with five blocked kicks in his career.

Gettysburg finished with a 3-7 overall record and 3-6 mark in conference. Head Coach Barry Streeter announced his retirement after 39 years at the helm of the program. Streeter retires as the program's career leader in wins with 196.
