Hoyt Joins Bullets Football Staff

GETTYSBURG, Pa.  – Gettysburg College head football coach Kevin Burke '90 has announced Mike Hoyt will join the program as an assistant coach beginning this spring.

Hoyt will serve as co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach in addition to lending his expertise as a certified strength and conditioning specialist to the athletics department.

"We are thrilled to have Mike Hoyt join our football program," said Burke, who is entering his first season at the helm following long-time head coach Barry Streeter's retirement this past fall.  "He brings a wealth of defensive experience to our staff. His meticulous attention to detail stood out in the interview process and I'm very excited for everything he will bring to our program."

Hoyt is a well-known name in the Centennial Conferencing, having served as the head coach at McDaniel College (2012-2015) and as an assistant at Franklin & Marshall College (1998, 2000-03). He oversaw all aspects of McDaniel's football program and increased both roster size and talent level through successful recruiting. Hoyt coached defensive backs, linebackers, and running backs and served as recruiting coordinator during his two stints in Lancaster.

At both institutions he developed and implemented successful strength and conditioning programs and improved injury prevention for the student-athletes.

In between his Centennial stints, Hoyt served as the associate head coach, defensive coordinator and director of strength and conditioning at Albright College. He helped the Lions achieve a school record for wins in 2009 and led the program to five postseason appearances in eight seasons. In 2011, he was a finalist for American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year. Hoyt also oversaw the development of a strength and conditioning program for all varsity sports at Albright.

Most recently at the collegiate level, he served as the defensive coordinator at Grove City College for the 2016 season. Additional college coaching stops include Millersville University (1996) and Canisius College (1994-95). This past fall, Hoyt served as the head football coach at Governor Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, Md.

Hoyt is a 1992 graduate of Canisius where he received a Bachelor of Science in physical education. He also received his master's in physical education from Canisius in 1997.
