Four Named to All-America Team

Four Named to All-America Team

Maria Guarisco, Franklin & Marshall

Megan Keenan, Ursinus

Two members of the Ursinus College field hockey team were named 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Americans on Monday morning.

Junior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) was named as a first-team All-American, while sophomore defender Aliki Torrence (Reading, Pa./Exeter) was named as third-team All-American.

Keenan, who was the South Region and Centennial Conference Player of the Year this season, finished with a team-best 21 goals and a team-best 54 points. The Rookie of the Year in 2012, was the 16th player in Centennial Conference history to be named All-Centennial three times. She was also named as the Centennial Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in Field Hockey. She was a first-team selection last season.

Torrence, who was first-team All-Centennial and a first-team South Region selection, led a defense that allowed on average 1.45 goals per game.

Franklin & Marshall's Maria Guarisco and Mary Kate Olson were named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-America Team, announced Monday.

Guarisco garnered All-America status for the first time in her career after landing on the first team, while Olson earned a spot for the second straight year after being named to the third team. The duo became the 27th and 28th All-Americans in program history and the honors mark the fourth consecutive year a Diplomat has earned the distinction.

Guarisco (Cranford, N.J. / Cranford) nabs All-America honors after also landing on the Synapse Sports All-America Second Team. She was named to the Longstreth/NFHCA All-South Region First Team and was one of just six unanimous All-Centennial Conference (CC) selections. The junior midfielder led the team and was second in the CC in points with 48, goals with 20 and tied for fourth with eight assists. Her 2.29 points per game average ranked 24th in the nation, while her 0.95 goals a game was good for 26th.  She produced six multi-goal games during the season, tying a single-game career high with three against Gettysburg on Oct. 28. Guarisco's 48 points were the fourth most by a Diplomat during a season.

Olson (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) continues to collect postseason awards, having been named to the Synapse Sports All-America Second Team, All-South Region First Team and CC First Team. The junior midfielder was also voted on by her peers as the DIII Regular Season MVP by USA Field Hockey and was a stalwart for an F&M defense that ranked eighth in the nation in goals against average at 0.86. The Diplomats were first in shutout percentage at 0.5 and allowed only 18 goals throughout the season, the lowest in the CC.
