Bullets Extend Win Streak against Bryn Mawr

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Lindsay Kraus (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) tallied a goal and an assist to lead Gettysburg College past Bryn Mawr College 3-0 in a Centennial Conference field hockey match up at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Gettysburg (5-4, 3-1 CC) won its fourth game in a row and posted its first shutout of the season. Bryn Mawr (5-4, 0-3 CC) didn't give in easily, however, holding the Bullets off the scoreboard in the opening half of play. Owl goalie Angela Meng turned away three shots in the first period, including an attempt by Kraus in the 30th minute.

The hosts turned up the heat at the start of the second period and converted the first goal just 1:33 into the frame. Following a penalty corner, the first shot by freshman Emma Bertrando (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was stopped in front of the cage, but senior Jamie Relin (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) was right there to corral the loose ball and slip into the cage for her second goal of the year.

Kraus accounted for the second tally, accepting a crossing pass from junior Victoria Umbach (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and pushing it to the left corner of the goal in the 49th minute. The senior just missed another goal six minutes later as her penalty stroke attempt clanged off the cross bar.

Kraus provided the assist on the final tally, smashing a pass from the top of the arc. Freshman Megan Kratz(Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) deflected ball up and over the defense to make it 3-0 with less than eight minutes remaining.

Gettysburg's defense held Bryn Mawr to just three shots, only one of which was one goal. Senior Haley Mowery(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) kicked away the would-be tally 49 minutes into the game.

Gettysburg hits the road for a non-conference contest at top-ranked and defending national champion Messiah College on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
