Haverford vs. Dickinson (Men's Soccer, 12:00)
We will have a first-time champion in men's soccer as the fifth-seeded Fords (11-6-1) take on the second-seeded Red Devils (10-4-4) for the Conference title. Haverford defeated Dickinson, 3-2, back on Oct. 9 on the Main Line as Nikko Giannesca scored the game-winner in the 74th minute. This is the second time that Dickinson has reached the final (2009) while Haverford continues its amazing run in its first-ever Centennial tournament. The Devils fell to Johns Hopkins, 2-1, in Allentown in the '09 title match. Haverford is just the second No. 5 seed to reach the final, joining Gettysburg (2005) in the elite group. The Bullets dropped a 2-0 decision to Muhlenberg in Westminster in that match.

What to Watch For

  • Haverford leads the all-time series, 17-16-4, and broke the Devils' seven-game series win streak with a 3-2 win on Oct. 9.
  • Dickinson is 1-0-2 against Haverford in overtime since 1993. The two teams have not met in the Centennial playoffs.
  • Haverford's Alejandro Rettig y Martinez has scored a goal in five consecutive matches. The Fords have won eight consecutive games since a scoreless draw against Widener on Oct. 5. The last time Haverford trailed was against Dickinson on Oct. 9.
  • Since 2005, the team scoring first has a 22-5 record, while the team leading at halftime is 9-2.
  • There have been 17 matches decided by one goal in the 39-game history of the tournament, including ten 1-0 results.
  • No team has come back from a two-goal deficit to win a match in the tournament.
  • There have been 18 overtime matches – eight decided by a “golden goal” and 10 decided by penalties. Three previous finals have gone to extra time (2002, 2006, 2010) and one title match was decided by PKs (2002).
