Wednesday's Games to Watch

Claire McAuliffe, Washington College; Javier Mena, Dickinson; Sydney Seydel, Franklin & Marshall

Washington College at Haverford (Field Hockey, 7:00)
Two teams looking to secure playoff spots and possible first-round tournament byes meet at Swan Field. The Fords (11-4, 6-2), ranked 16th nationally, can lock down a first-round bye with a victory, while the Shorewomen (9-7, 5-3), currently sitting in fourth place, can move a step closer to a tournament spot with a win. Haverford has a seven-game winning streak to close the all-time series deficit to 11-8-1. Washington College's last victory over the Fords was in 2005 in Chestertown. A pair of 10-goal scorers lead both teams in WAC's Claire McAuliffe (10-6-26) and Haverford's Mary Hobbs (10-9-29).

Dickinson at Muhlenberg (Men's Soccer, 7:00)
One team looks to keep its hopes of a #1 seed in next weekend's Centennial tournament alive ... the other looks to keep its playoff hopes alive. This is the 51st time that the Red Devils (10-3-2, 5-1-1) and the Mules (10-4, 4-3) have met on the pitch since 1964 with 'Berg holding a 31-15-4 lead, although Dickinson is 3-0-1 in the last four contests. The Red and White trails Swarthmore by three points in the chase for the top seed, while Muhlenberg has 12 points and in a fourth-place tie with Franklin & Marshall. Two of the Centennial's top midfielders will be on display tonight in Dickinson's Javier Mena (6-6-18) and Muhlenberg's Cody Antonini (13-2-28).

Franklin & Marshall at Gettysburg (Volleyball, 7:00)
One of the dates that we circle on the calendar every fall takes place tonight at Bream Gym as two of the perennial Conference powers square off in a match with tournament implications. The Diplomats (15-13, 7-1) need two wins over the Bullets (15-11, 6-2) and Dickinson (6-13, 5-4) to lock down the top seed for next weekend's championship. Gettysburg finds itself in a similar position, needing wins against F&M and Johns Hopkins (25-3, 7-1) to keep its chances for the #1 seed alive. The Bullets are led offensively by reigning CC Player of the Week Cydney Bracken who averages 3.06 kills per set. The Diplomats counter with two of the top blockers in the Conference in Julie Harvey (1.13 per set) and Sydney Seydel (0.82). This is the 52nd time that the schools have met on the court with Gettysburg holding a 37-14 series lead. F&M has won the last two regular-season matchups, but the Bullets avenged those losses with a five-set win over the Diplomats in the 2011 CC semifinals.
