The Centennial Conference Celebrates Division III Week

The Centennial Conference Celebrates Division III Week

The Centennial Conference is celebrating DIII Week along with the rest of NCAA Division III institutions from Monday, April 4th through Sunday, April 10th.  Division III is the largest division of the NCAA with 450 members, 43 conferences, and 187,000 student-athletes.

Division III Week was established six years ago to provide a positive opportunity to recognize the impact of athletics and student-athletes on campus and in the community.  Throughout the week, every Division III school and conference is encouraged to hold activities that highlight academic accomplishment, athletic experience, or leadership/community service/campus involvement.

Here's a look at some of the events the Centennial Conference schools have organized to celebrate Division III Week:

Bryn Mawr

For Division III Week, Bryn Mawr will have a Faculty Wiffle ball game and hold a Spirit Competition to celebrate its student-athletes.

Dickinson

Dickinson will celebrate DIII Week by hosting a Faculty Student-Athlete reception, having Coffee with Coaches, and featuring a Why D3? Video on its website.

Franklin & Marshall

On April 10th, Franklin & Marshall is hosting its annual TeamWork community clean-up program. Varsity and club athletic teams will work alongside student groups, greek organizations, faculty, staff, and members of the community to lend a helping hand with spring-clean up projects in areas surrounding campus.

Gettysburg

For Division III Week, Gettysburg will be releasing student-athlete videos and stories on its website and social media. The Bullets are also encouraging their fall and winter student-athletes to attend games to support their classmates competing this week.

Haverford

The Fords will celebrate Division III Week with a reception with faculty liaisons and social media outreach. Haverford will spread school spirit by handing out merchandise at games.

Johns Hopkins

For Division III Week, the Blue Jays will have a tailgate for the baseball team's doubleheader against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, April 9th.

McDaniel

The Green Terror will begin DIII Week with a Kickoff breakfast with student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. On Tuesday, there will be a faculty-student tailgate for the softball and baseball games. There will be a Tournament of Champions on Thursday where student-athletes will be paired with elementary-aged Special Olympics athletes and participate in modified sports games. To end the week, McDaniel will have a SAAC-sponsored barbeque during Saturday's home games.

Muhlenberg

Along with fall and winter student-athletes going to games this week, Muhlenberg will send invites to its faculty to attend games to support the spring sports teams. The Mules will also feature a Why D3? Video to celebrate its student-athletes and their experience at Muhlenberg.

Ursinus

All next week, Ursinus is encouraging student-athletes to show their school spirit by posting pictures wearing team gear on social media. The Bears will also have a Faculty Appreciation Day, which will feature a faculty member throwing out the first pitch at the baseball game.

Swarthmore

During Division III Week, Swarthmore will have a Faculty/Staff Appreciation Lunch and take part in a Special Olympics group event.

Washington College

For its Division III Week celebration, Washington College will continue its community outreach competition.  At the home contests this week, student-athletes will wear blue shoelaces and pre-wrap to celebrate National Autism Awareness Month as well as DIII Week.
