Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Nov. 15-21

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference basketball, swimming and wrestling action continued last week as CC student-athletes approach Thanksgiving break and the end of the fall semester. Two repeat winners from Franklin & Marshall swimming headline this week's awards. 

This week's award winners for Nov. 15-21 include John Seidman of Franklin & Marshall men's basketball, Christina Richson of Gettysburg women's basketball, Brendan Cline and Sophie Moyer of Franklin & Marshall men's and women's swimming, and Ray Martin of Gettysburg wrestling. Cline and Moyer are both repeat winners this season.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
  
Player of the Week
John Seidman, Fr., G, Franklin & Marshall
Ardmore, Pa. | Haverford
Seidman put in a stat-stuffing effort against Albright in a 71-65 come-from-behind win on Wednesday evening. The first-year guard tallied 20 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block as he dominated late to turn around a nine-point deficit in the second half. 
 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Christina Richson, Sr., G, Gettysburg
Summit, N.J., | Summit
Richson poured in a career-high 20 points and hit six three-pointers as Gettysburg took down No. 5 Messiah 65-55 on Nov. 16. The senior guard set an early tone with two three-pointers in the opening period and then posted eight points in the third quarter when the Bullets seized the advantage over Messiah, which saw its 29-game winning streak stopped. Richson finished 7-of-16 from the floor overall, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc, and added three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. The win marked Gettysburg's highest-ranked opponent beaten in 36 years. 
 

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Brendan Cline, Sr., Franklin & Marshall
Annapolis, Md. | Key School
Cline was dominant at the F&M Invitational this weekend, picking up two golds and a silver in individual competition, then was superb in the relays. On Friday, Cline nabbed the 50-yard freestyle gold with an NCAA "B" Cut time of 20.57, then did it again as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:21.78. Saturday saw the senior start a 400-yard freestyle relay that grabbed gold with a time of 3:03.08, then earn silver in the 100-yard freestyle. Cline finished his weekend by busting a school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a 49.23 finish, then helping to grab a gold and meet record in the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:31.13 time.
 

WOMEN'S SWIMMING
 
Athlete of the Week
Sophie Moyer, Fr., Franklin & Marshall
Doylestown, Pa. | Central Bucks East
Moyer picked up two bronze medals at the F&M Invitational, setting a new personal-best in the 100-breaststroke at 1:06.24 (and nearly breaking the school record by one-hundredth of a second), then breaking a 25 year old school record with a 2:23.67 time in the 200-breaststroke. Her 200-breaststroke time ranks in the top 30 in the nation. Moyer also took part in a fourth-place 200-yard medley relay that broke a 2018 school record on Saturday afternoon.
 

WRESTLING
 
Athlete of the Week
Ray Martin, Sr., 174, Gettysburg
Downingtown, Pa. | West Chester Henderson
Martin went 3-1 on the way to a runner-up finish at 174 at the Penn College Wildcat Invitational. The senior posted a 16-0 tech fall in his first match and tacked on a pair of first-period pins to reach the finals, where he fell by a 2-0 decision. Martin is 10-3 on the year.
