Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - March 14-20

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Two rare performances in baseball highlight this week's Centennial Conference awards in baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, and men's and women's tennis. 

Shane Daly of McDaniel baseball became just the sixth player in conference history to hit for the cycle, while Kieren Collins of Johns Hopkins baseball pitched the 17th no-hitter in CC history. Other award winners included Alexa Klepper of Franklin & Marshall softball, Meg Ozawa of Swarthmore softball, Matt Thurston and Patrick Scarborough of Dickinson men's lacrosse, Ally Marino and Emily Kitchin of Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse, and Karl Hoegstedt and Alisha White of Washington College men's and women's tennis.

Baseball 
Player of the Week
Shane Daly, Fr., OF, McDaniel
Haddon Heights, N.J. | Haddon Heights
Daly led the Green Terror to a 4-2 finish to its Myrtle Beach trip, hitting .407 over the six games with a .778 slugging percentage from the leadoff spot. He went 6-for-6 in a 17-8 win over Framingham State on Tuesday that included hitting for the cycle with not just one home run, but two long balls. The six hits in a single game ties a program record while he is just the second McDaniel player to hit two home runs in the same game. He is the sixth player in Centennial history to hit for the cycle and the first Green Terror player to accomplish the feat in 20 years. He finished the week with 11 hits, 11 runs scored, seven RBIs, three walks, and four stolen bases.
 
Baseball 
Pitcher of the Week
Kieren Collins, Jr., RHP, Johns Hopkins

Collins pitched the 17th no-hitter in Centennial Conference history and the eighth no-hitter in JHU history in a 10-0 win over Ramapo. Collins went the full seven innings and struck out eight without allowing a walk in the complete-game gem. The first Ramapo batter of the game reached on an error and then Collins set down the remaining 21 batters in the victory. This was the sixth individual no-hitter in Blue Jay history and the first no-hitter for Johns Hopkins since 2010, when four pitchers combined for one. 
  

Softball
Player of the Week
Alexa Klepper, Fr., 2B, Franklin & Marshall
Robbinsville, N.J. | Robbinsville
Klepper had a monster week for the Diplomats during their spring break trip, racking up 12 hits in 23 at-bats, while driving in eight and scoring six times to help the team to a 5-3 record. The first-year second baseman registered four multi-hit games, including a 3-for-3 effort against Salem State where she fell a homer short of the cycle while knocking in three. Klepper also had a perfect week in the field, registering 13 putouts and 13 assists on 26 total chances. For the week, Klepper hit .522 and slugged .696. 
 
Softball
Pitcher of the Week
Meg Ozawa, Jr., LHP, Swarthmore
Scarsdale, N.Y. | Scarsdale
Ozawa earned a victory against Gwynedd Mercy, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in four innings of work in a 7-2 victory for the Garnet. Ozawa allowed one earned run for an ERA of 1.75 for the week. 
 

Men's Lacrosse
Offensive Player of the Week
Matt Thurston, Fr., A, Dickinson
Ridgewood, N.J. | Ridgewood 
Thurston helped the Red Devils to victories over two nationally-ranked opponents last week at the Mustang Classic hosted by Stevenson. Thurston totaled seven goals, including a game-winner, one assist, and six ground balls in victories of the host Mustangs and Denison. On Friday night against 16th-ranked Stevenson, he racked up four goals, three ground balls and one assist, including the game-winning score with 1:47 left to lift Dickinson to an 11-10 win. Less than 24 hours later, he tallied three more goals and three loose balls, while forcing a turnover. On the weekend he hit the back of the cage on half of his 14 shots (10 on goal). 
 
Men's Lacrosse
Defensive Player of the Week
Patrick Scarborough, So., GK, Dickinson
Baltimore, Md. | The McDonogh School
Scarborough was thrown into the first unit this weekend facing a pair of ranked opponents on consecutive days at the Mustang Classic hosted by Stevenson. First, on Friday night in his first collegiate start the sophomore made a dozen saves including one with three seconds left to help the Red Devils post an 11-10 win over the host and 16th-ranked Mustangs. Then, a day later he went right back between the pipes versus 18th-ranked Denison and made 18 saves, including nine in the third quarter only to allow the Red and White to win 14-10 and move to 7-0 for the first time since the 2012 season.
 

Women's Lacrosse
Offensive Player of the Week
Ally Marino, Sr., A, Franklin & Marshall
Malvern, Pa. | Episcopal Academy
Marino shined in a day/night twin bill in Florida - registering a four-goal, three-assist, four-ground ball outing in a 20-10 win against No. 19 Denison before a two-goal, two-assist game against Lynchburg in the nightcap. The senior attacker was efficient, converting six goals on just nine shots.
 
Women's Lacrosse
Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Kitchin, Sr., GK, Franklin & Marshall
Morristown, N.J. | Morristown-Beard School
Kitchin allowed just 11 goals while making 18 saves in a pair of wins for F&M last week. Against No. 19 Denison, the senior goalkeeper notched 10 saves in a 20-10 victory. Kitchin then allowed just one goal combined with eight stops in a 19-3 win over Lynchburg. Kitchin posted a 7.21 goals against average and 62.1% save percentage in the two victories. 
 

Men's Tennis
Player of the Week
Karl Hoegstedt, Jr., Washington College
West Chester, Pa. | B. Reed Henderson
Hoegstedt went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-1 at No. 1 doubles as Washington College posted a 3-1 team record last week. On Sunday, he prevailed in singles against Christopher Newport, ranked 34th nationally, over Ryan Macy, 7-5, 7-5, at the No. 1 spot. In a 7-2 win against Millikin on Friday, he teamed with Andrew Smith to win 8-2 over Theodor Wolf and Cole Phillips at No. 1 doubles. On Tuesday in a 6-3 win over Ithaca, he won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, over Nicolas Luis and in doubles at No. 1, he teamed with Smith to top Deon Kraft and Eric Dubilirer, 8-6. Against Asbury, he bested Gregorio Ingles at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and in No. 1 doubles he and Smith bested Gregorio Ingles and Duarte Teixiera, 8-7 (8-6).
 

Women's Tennis
Player of the Week
Alisha White, Sr., Washington College
Silver Spring, Md. | John F. Kennedy
White went 3-1 in both singles and doubles as the Shorewomen went 3-1 during spring break. In a 5-4 win over Ithaca on Tuesday, she won her 50th career match (singles and doubles) as she teamed up with Bin Nguyen to win 8-7 (7-4) at No. 2 doubles over Zoe Davis and Eliana Chelnick. Then in No. 2 singles against Ithaca's Lauren Rodriguez, she was victorious 6-4, 6-3. Later that day versus Webster, White was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles over Emma Ferguson and teamed with Ngyuen to prevail 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. On Friday versus Millikin, the senior teamed with Nguyen to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and at No. 2 singles, came away with a 6-3, 6-2, triumph versus Emily Markus as WC topped Millikin, 6-3.
