Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Nov. 7-13

LANCASTER, Pa. -- This week marks the first Centennial Conference weekly awards for men's and women's basketball while early-season competition continues for men's and women's swimming and wrestling. 

Weekly awards for Nov. 7-13 were given to Giovanni Rubino of Muhlenberg men's basketball, Jessica Smith of Bryn Mawr women's basketball, Jonah Kasznay of Ursinus men's swimming, Gaby Ma of Swarthmore women's swimming, and Thomas Monn of McDaniel wrestling.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Giovanni Rubino, Jr., G, Muhlenberg
Pequannock, N.J. | Cheshire Academy (Conn.)
Rubino averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game and shot 58.6 percent from the field as Muhlenberg opened its season with two wins. He tied a career high with 23 in a 77-74 win at Moravian, including two on a pair of free throws with 8.9 seconds left to seal the win. Rubino set a new career high with 24 points four days later in a 71-56 win against a Susquehanna team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. He tied a school record against the River Hawks by going 6-for-6 from three-point range. Rubino also added a steal and a block in the two games. 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Jessica Smith, So., Bryn Mawr
Turlock, Calif. | Pitman
Smith averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 50% from the field as Bryn Mawr opened the year 2-0. The sophomore guard opened the year with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting along with 12 boards and four steals in a 43-36 victory over Valley Forge. Smith followed that up with 20 points and seven rebounds in a 55-48 win against Penn State Berks. 

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Jonah Kasznay, So., Ursinus
Pottstown, Pa. | Owen J. Roberts
Kasznay led the Bears with three individual victories to lift Ursinus over Gettysburg for the first time since the 2015-16 season. He dominated the 1000-yard freestyle, winning by 20 seconds with a time of 10:03.28. He carried over his performance into the 500 freestyle with a first-place finish with a time of 4:49.75, which ranks second in the conference this season. He also finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.00, which ranks atop the CC. Kasznay led off for the first-place 200 medley relay team team for the Bears that touched in 1:36.88. 

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Gaby Ma, Sr., Swarthmore
Redwood City, Calif. | Sacred Heart Prep
Ma put together a strong week in dual victories over TCNJ and Bryn Mawr as the Garnet remained unbeaten on the year. Against TCNJ on Saturday, the junior finished first in the 100 breast (1:06.18) and the 200 breast (2:29.68). On Friday against Bryn Mawr, Ma was victorious in the 100 IM (1:00.04) and was a member of the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:46.29). Ma's 100 IM time currently ranks second in the nation.

Hagerstown, Md. | Washington Tech
Monn pinned his opponent in a dual at Averett on Saturday to open the year 4-0. With the Green Terror leading 22-16 entering the final two matches, Monn pinned Avertt's Hai Siu in 4:45 at 149 pounds to clinch t
