Franklin & Marshall 71, McDaniel 40

Brandon Beckford (pictured) scored a career-high 26 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 71-40 victory over McDaniel Saturday in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats maintain their one-game lead in conference and improved to 13-4, 8-2 CC. The Green Terror fell to 9-8, 6-4 CC.

 

Gettysburg 76, Haverford 73

It was another day and another nailbiter for the Gettysburg College men’s basketball team. Three days after suffering a 67-65 overtime loss at McDaniel College, the Bullets held off a second-half rally to beat Haverford College 76-73 in a key Centennial Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Bream Gymnasium. With the win, Gettysburg (10-7, 7-3 CC) moved into sole possession of second place in the Centennial Conference standings. The Bullets entered the day in a three-way tie for second with Haverford and McDaniel, who lost to Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.

 

Muhlenberg 82, Washington College 60

It may have been Kevin O’Hara’s birthday, but it was the fans of the Muhlenberg men’s basketball team who got the most presents. Those on hand for the Mules’ 82-60 win against Washington got to witness a scoring performance not seen at Memorial Hall in 16 years, a school and Centennial Conference record tied and a dunking exhibition.

 

Dickinson 59, Johns Hopkins 48

Johns Hopkins was held to just 48 by host Dickinson as the Red Devils snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Blue Jays with a 59-48 win in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays are now 4-13 overall with a 2-8 mark in the conference. The Red Devils, earning their first win over the Blue Jays since December 4, 2004, improve to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in the Centennial.

 

Ursinus 88, Swarthmore 76

Trailing by as much as 17 points in the first, Ursinus scored 66 points in the second half as the Bears (7-10, 4-6 Centennial) rallied back to defeat Swarthmore (5-12, 2-8 Centennial) 88-76 Saturday afternoon in a game that featured 66 personal fouls and saw the two teams combine for 98 foul shot attempts. Ursinus got a game and career-high 31 points from sophomore forward Jon Ward who was 17-for-22 from the foul line in the win. Ursinus as a team was 39-for-52 (75 percent).
