Washington College Shoremen

Head Coach Rob Nugent

Now in his 13th season at Washington College, Rob Nugent (MCLA '97) has left his mark on the storied history of Shoremen Basketball. In his second season, he guided a team with no regular players taller than 6'3" to a Centennial Conference playoff berth in 2002-03. In 2005-06, Nugent guided the Shoremen to their first conference playoff win in six years and into the Centennial Conference semifinals. The 2008-09 Shoremen came within one game of qualifying for the Centennial Conference playoffs despite a roster featuring 10 freshmen. The following season, Nugent guided the Shoremen to a third-place finish in the regular-season Centennial Conference standings and a spot in the Centennial Conference semifinals. He was named the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year following the season. In 2011-12, Nugent's Shoremen returned to the Centennial Conference Tournament as the fifth seed and reached the semifinals.

2014 Outlook

Washington College suffered through some growing pains last season but hopes to build on that experience in 2014. Four starters are back in the fold, including Poarch, a second-team All-Centennial choice. Cunningham also averaged double figures last season, while Brooks and Flanigan provide backcourt experience. Morgan saw significant time a year ago and is counted on for bigger things this winter. The Shoremen are small but Nugent teams are always scrappy. Washington may be a year away from playoff contention but will cause playoff hopefuls fits throughout the season.
