The #10-ranked Dickinson men's basketball team had another strong finish, topping host Juniata College, 65-59, to win the Doc Greene Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) earned Tournament MVP honors with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds. He dished out three assists as well, hitting a pair of three-pointers while going 10-for-11 from the free throw line.

Senior Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) reached double-figures with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, draining 3-of-4 attempts from beyond the arc. He joined Wixted on the All-Tournament team, adding a pair of assists and a blocked shot.

The Red Devils used the long ball in the early minutes, knocking-down five three-pointers in the opening six minutes of the game. Junior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) tallied the only two-point field-goal in an early run to put the Devils up, 8-0.

Collins hit a pair of triples with Wixted, Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Pete Yingst (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) also scoring from long range to give the Devils a 17-9 advantage with 14:01 remaining in the first half.

Wixted converted a three-point play and added two more free throws to make the score, 24-16, at the 7:41 mark. Juniata rallied to close out the first half, tying the game with 26-26. The Red Devils pulled in front, 30-28, at the break.

Angradi answered a lay-up with another three-pointer to open the second half. Seth Brewer hit a three on the other end to trigger a 9-2 run that put the Eagles on top, 42-35. The Devils quickly erased the deficit behind scores from Hinnenkamp and Wixted, and another three-pointer by Collins.

Dickinson opened the margin back to nine as first-year Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) came on to hit a three and Wixted added another at the 6:41 mark for a 54-45 lead.

Hinnenkamp and Angradi countered a jumper from Damon Rickens for an 11-point advantage. Rickens drained a pair of three-pointers to help the Eagles pull within three, 60-57, at the 3:22 minute mark.

The Red Devils showed composure down the stretch, led by three-points from Wixted, on the way to the final of 65-59.

Angradi finished with nine points for the Red Devils as they combined for nine three-pointers on the afternoon.

Wixted scored 35 points in the tournament, adding 10 rebounds and eight assists. He converted 17-of-20 free throw attempts on the way to MVP honors. Collins shot a remarkable 77 percent from the field, hitting 5-of-7 three-pointers, scoring 27 points. Hinnenkamp scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the tournament while Angradi netted 21.

The #10-ranked Red Devils topped #16-North Central (Ill.) on Friday night to advance to Saturday's championship. Dickinson improves to 8-1 overall. They travel to Alvernia University on December 22nd for a 7:00 pm tip-off to close out the semester.
