Four Devils Hit Double-Figures in First Win of the Year

CLEVELAND - Aaron BaileyAndrew Gostovich, Martin Mann, and Brandon Wiercinski all reached double-figures as the Dickinson men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season by knocking off the Gators of Allegheny College by a score of 78-62 on day one of the Bill Sudeck Tournament hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

Dickinson had the hot hand from distance early with triples by Drew Haueisen and Wiercinski giving them a 6-2 edge just over a minute in. Over the next six minutes the Devils extended the margin to six (15-9) thanks to a trey from Gostovich as well as buckets by Anthony Goeb, Bailey, and Mann. The Gators then rallied back with 9-2 push as Caden Hinckley and Ryan Lang supplied the offense to reclaim a slim 18-17 edge at the halfway point. An "old-fashioned" three-point play for Randy Shephard and a jumper off a feed from Shephard brought DC in front 22-18, before five straight for Allegheny made it 23-22 with 7:52 to go. Gostovich provided a shot from distance and three on the charity line to aid an 8-4 Devils push over a 2:05 span to lead 30-26. Four points from Mike Noonan sparked a 7-0 AC run to jump back ahead 33-30. Dickinson ended the half with a 5-2 gallop with baskets from Isaiah Edmond, Gostovich, and Shephard leaving the score knotted at 35 going to the break.

The second period began with a layup from Hinckley. However, that seemed to wake the DC offense up as they embarked on a 14-0 rampage with Gostovich and Haueisen each netting five, while Edmond chipped in four to give the Red and White a 49-37 advantage at the 6:09 mark. The Gators came storming back with a 9-2 romp ending with a layup from Hinckley to pull within 51-46. A long-range jumper for Wiercinski, followed by a Mann layup in the lane had the Devils on top 56-48 with ten minutes gone. The trio of Hinckley, Lang, and Noonan helped the Gators to chip the deficit down to three at 58-55 two minutes later. AC continued to stay within an arm's length at 62-59 on a basket from Hinckley, but then the Red and White took command of the game closing out on a 16-3 stampede with buckets by Bailey, Edmond, Gostovich, Mann, and Wiercinski to cap off the 78-62 win.
