Garnet & Blue Jays Roll Into NCAA Second Round

Seventh-ranked Swarthmore and 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins each posted double-digit victories on their respective home courts in the first round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament on Friday night. 

Playing in front of a raucous home crowd in Swarthmore, Pa., the Garnet (25-3) took down SUNY Delhi (20-9) by a score of 93-64. Swarthmore will meet St. John Fisher (22-7), a 74-59 winner over Whitworth, on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. at Tarble Pavilion. 

Offensively, the Garnet saw three double digit performances, with George Visconti (21), Michael Caprise (16) and Colin Shaw (14) all proving pivotal to the Garnet attack. Visconti and Shaw were lethal from beyond the arc, shooting 4-7 and 4-6 from three respectively, while Caprise locked down the paint for Swarthmore, shooting 8-12.

In Baltimore, Md., Johns Hopkins (24-4) shot nearly 60 percent in the second half to pull away for an 89-71 win over Mitchell (23-5) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night. The Blue Jays will take on Hamilton (20-8), an 84-75 winner over Montclair State, on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Goldfarb Gym. 

John Windley led Hopkins with a career-high 23 points, while also grabbing seven boards and handing out a pair of assists. Sidney Thybulle posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
