MACUNGIE, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall won its fifth consecutive Centennial Conference men's golf championship with a 17-shot victory over runner-up McDaniel at the Brookside CC.
The Diplomats led wire-to-wire for their ninth title in the last 11 years. F&M set tournament records for low first-round team score (286) and low 36-hole effort (581), while its 890 total was the second-lowest in Conference championship history.
Franklin & Marshall senior Ben Mitchell also set records on his way to capturing medalist and Player of the Year honors. He fashioned a tournament-record four-under-par 67 to take the first-day lead and was never headed on his way to a nine-shot victory. His 36-hole score of 139 and his final total of 212 also established Centennial championship marks. Mitchell is the 12th player to go wire-to-wire for individual honors.
Swarthmore's Dan Altieri and McDaniel's Brandon Vance fired final-round 73s to finish in a tie for second at 221. F&M's Justin Lankler was fourth at 225, while Gettysburg's Dane Sethre-Hofstad took fifth at 226. The low five finishers all earned first-team All-Centennial honors. It is the second straight year that Altieri has received All-CC laurels.
McDaniel's Collin MacDonald finished in a tie for sixth at 227 and was honored as the Conference's Rookie of the Year.
