F&M Picked to Repeat in Men's Golf

LANCASTER, Pa. – Defending champion Franklin & Marshall was chosen as the favorite to repeat in the 2023 Centennial Conference Men's Golf Preseason Poll, leading a group of three teams that received first-place votes in the annual voting among conference head coaches.

The Diplomats secured five first-place nods and totaled 35 points to receive the distinction as preseason favorite in the conference. Gettysburg (28 points) and Dickinson (27) also collected one first-place vote and finished second and third in the rankings, respectively.

McDaniel was picked to finish fourth with 23 points, followed by Swarthmore (16) in fifth, Muhlenberg (12) in sixth and Ursinus (6) in seventh.

Six of the seven CC teams will open up the spring campaign March 25-26 at the McDaniel Spring Invitational at The Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa. Regular season competition will continue through the end of the April, with the Centennial championship set for Apr. 28-29-20 at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, Pa.

Franklin & Marshall led from start-to-finish to claim its record 12th Centennial Conference championship last spring Hershey Country Club's East Course. Led by a record-breaking weekend from individual champion Dominic Sculti, the Diplomats posted the best team score in the 28-year history of Centennial men's golf en route to a resounding 28-stroke victory. The Diplomats' 859 team score demolished the former Centennial Championship record by 23 strokes, besting F&M's previous best of 882 set in 2015 at DuPont CC.

The Diplomats were paced by Sculti, who became F&M's sixth wire-to-wire champion at the CC Championship, and the first since Ben Mitchell in 2018. Sculti matched Mitchell's 2018 record of a three-round total of 212, becoming F&M's eighth ever individual champion. Sculti was named Player of the Year for his efforts throughout the season and at the championship event.

F&M went on to finish 18th at the NCAA Championship, the top national finish for a CC team since 2016.

McDaniel's Ryan McGarry was named to a Division III PING All-America honorable mention team last spring after posting a 74.0 stroke average over 20 rounds.

McGarry and Sculti are two of five players with all-conferencee experience back on the course this spring. F&M's Jas Fuhrer is a two-time All-Centennial honoree, as is McDaniel's Ryan McGarry. Dickinson's Peter Lown and Gettysburg's Daniel Suter each have one All-CC honor to their name. Suter was also the 2022 CC Rookie of the Year, while Gettysburg teammate Cam Deiuliis, the 2021 Rookie of the Year, is also back for the Bullets this spring.

Entering the spring, F&M (292.8), Gettysburg (294.1), Dickinson (296.2) and McDaniel (298.3) all boast sub-300 scoring averages from fall tournaments.
