Gallagher Leads Diplomats on NCAA Day One

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.- The Franklin & Marshall men's golf team wrapped up the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championship with an overall score of 298 to place 19th out of 43 teams Tuesday afternoon at Keene Trace Golf Club. Dylan Gallagher shot a season-best 68 on the first day of the tournament to end the round tied for third place in the individual standings.

The Diplomats closed the opening round carding 55 pars and 10 birdies as a team on the par 72 course.

Gallagher tallied four birdies with an eagle on the 15th hole to put himself in a tie with three other competitors for third place. His four-under par card is his best round score since shooting a 69 in the third round of the Centennial Conference (CC) Championship.

Jack Cooley shot a 75 in the opening round to finish the day tied for 78th in the field of 221 competitors. Shane Lawler carded a 77 after 18 holes to end the day tied for 111th. After finishing atop the individual leaderboard in the CC Championship, Jas Fuhrer shot a 78 to place tied for 130th. Chris Dorey rounded out Franklin & Marshall with a score of 79 to end the day tied for 145th.

After 18 holes, St. John's (Minn.) currently leads the team standings with an overall score of 284. Brian Hanson of Emory and Bobby Beaubien of Illinois Wesleyan each shot five-under par to share first place on the individual leaderboard.

Franklin & Marshall looks to climb the leaderboards tomorrow as the Diplomats tee off the second round of the NCAA Championship at 10:00 a.m.
