Dickinson, Gettysburg Advance in NCAA Tournament

Dickinson 15, Kenyon 6
The #11-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse team opened the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament with a 15-6 win over visiting Kenyon College on Wednesday afternoon. Christian Beitel and Bobby Kingsley each registered hat tricks to lead the Red Devils (15-3), while Will Scott had a goal and three assists. Dickinson faces Cabrini in a Sweet 16 game on Saturday.

Gettysburg 7, Ohio Wesleyan 4
Freshman Robby Maddux scored four goals, including the first three of the game, and the Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team used a fast start to get past Ohio Wesleyan University 7-4 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. With the win, the 20th-ranked Bullets (11-6) advanced to the second round of the tournament and on Saturday will play fifth-ranked Stevenson University. Junior Evan Thomas tied a career-high with three points on one goal and two assists for Gettysburg, which led 4-0 early in the second quarter, while sophomore Martin Manilla added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Derek Ruebling dished out two assists.

Goucher 5, Washington College 4
Visiting 10th-ranked Goucher College won an NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament game for the first time, holding off host 18th-ranked Washington College, 5-4, in a first round game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Gophers (18-1) advance to play at top-ranked Salisbury Saturday night in the tournament's second round. Michael Trapp was the only Shoreman with multiple points on the day. He also went 9-for-12 on face-offs to lead a 10-for-13 effort by Washington. Peter Stewart finished with 10 saves.
