Dickinson Laxers Raise $50K Playing Volleyball

(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson men's lacrosse team held their Ninth Annual Volleyball-a-Thon this past weekend to raise money for the Cumberland County American Red Cross.

The 50 members of the team played volleyball on the campus outdoor sand court for 24 consecutive hours. The event ran from 5pm on Friday, October 10 to 5pm on Saturday, October 11. The team raised $5,000 to bring their total over nine years to over $50,000.

There was great support from students and staff on campus as a number of people donated money and participated in the event. "Despite the foul weather and poor conditions, our young men prevailed and had great fun doing something very positive for our community," remarked Dickinson head coach Dave Webster '88.

The men's lacrosse team has been consistently recognized for their commitment to service and it is an integral part of their team culture. Last January, the team spent a week during winter break working with Habitat for Humanity in West Virginia.

The Volleyball-a-Thon is an annual event for the team and coincides with the end of their fall practice season.
