Swarthmore Takes Lead; Weygandt Sets 200 IM Records

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Swarthmore's Quinn Weygandt set new conference and championship meet records in the 200 IM as the Garnet men and women sit atop the standings on day two of the Centennial Conference Swimming Championships Friday night at Gettysburg. 

Weygandt provided the highlight of the evening session with a time of 2:04.96 in the 200 IM, setting new Centennial, championship meet and pool records. The time was also an NCAA B cut. The previous conference and championship records (2:05.94) were set by Ursinus' Peyten Lyons in 2017. 

Four other pool records fell during Friday's action. On the women's side, Swarthmore's Elle Anthony set a new Bullets pool standard in the 50 freestyle at 23.45 en route to gold. On the men's side, Swarthmore's Andrew Karpenko captured back-to-back 200 IM titles in a pool record 1:50.49, while the Garnet 400 medley relay team of Joseph Lukner, Karpenko, Cami Wilson and Cole Griscavage raced to a time of 3:17.68. 

Swarthmore's Ben Freeman repeated as champion in the 500 freestyle with an NCAA B cut time of 4:31.34, while Ursinus' Ryan Carkhuff won the 50 freestyle in 20.48, also a B cut. 

Ursinus' Missy Leonard secured repeat gold in the 500 freestyle with a B cut time of 4:57.95, while the Garnet womens 400 medley relay quartet of Erin Szuromi, Sophie Rotival, Ashley Wong, and Ainsley Jane Tambling touched first in a B cut time of 3:47.77.
