Six Earn Top USTFCCCA Regional Awards; 55 Honored

Three Centennial Conference athletes and three coaches received top regional awards while 55 athletes earned all-region honors by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). 

The CC runners collected three Regional Athlete of the Year awards as regional champions Christopher Scharf of Dickinson (Mid-Atlantic), Isabel Cardi of Dickinson (Mid-Atlantic) and Izzy Miller of Haverford (Metro) won their respective regional meets. 

Scharf won the individual title at the Mid-Atlantic Region Championships in 25:51.6. Earlier in the season, Scharf placed first at the Centennial Conference Championships and finished 21st at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle in 25:53.5.

Cardi capped an undefeated regular season with a victory at the Mid-Atlantic Region Championships in 22:13.0. Earlier in the season, Cardi also posted wins at the Centennial Conference Championships in 21:48.5, the Lehigh Paul Short Run in 20:54.6, the Dickinson Alumni 5k in 19:23.1 and the Galen Piper XC Challenge in 14:38.6.

Miller won the individual title at the Metro Region Championships in 21:24.0. Earlier in the season, Miller also placed first at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle in 21:33.8 and the Main Line Invitational in 17:26.6, as well as a runner-up finish at the Centennial Conference Championships in 21:57.5.

Three coaches were named Regional Coach of the Year after guiding their squads to team titles - Haverford's Tom Donnelly (Metro, men) and Fran Rizzo (Metro, women), and Johns Hopkins' Bobby Van Allen (Mid-Atlantic, women)

Donnelly, in his 47th year as head coach at Haverford, led the Fords to the team title at the Metro Region Championships with 50 points. Haverford also won the team title at the Centennial Championships with 37 points and finished second at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle with 57 points.

Rizzo, in his 31st year as head coach at Haverford, led the Fords to the team title at the Metro Region Championships with 88 points. Haverford also finished third at the Centennial Championships with 97 points and finished fourth at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle with 192 points.

Van Allen, in his 22nd year as head coach at Johns Hopkins, led the Blue Jays to the team title at the Mid-Atlantic Region with 20 points. Johns Hopkins also won the team title at the Centennial Championships with 26 points as well as the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle with 20 points.
