Haverford Clinches First-Ever Playoff Berth; Hosts Ursinus Wednesday

Dominique Meeks, Haverford

Haverford 61, Swarthmore 48
A 61-48 wire-to-wire win Saturday over host Swarthmore College by the Haverford College women's basketball team was one for the books as the Centennial Conference victory moved the Fords into the postseason for the first time in program history. Dominique Meeks scored on a layup in the first minute to give Haverford (17-8, 12-8 CC) a 2-0 lead and the Fords never trailed in the rivalry victory over the Garnet (9-15 7-13). Meeks finished with a career-high 22 points to lead all scorers while Katie Lytle registered 14 points to lead the Swarthmore offense in defeat.

Muhlenberg 61, Ursinus 56
Of all the ways the Muhlenberg women's basketball team has been beating opponents this season, free throws by Colleen Caldwell generally isn't one of them.
But the sophomore calmly drained two huge free throws with 30 seconds left to help the Mules hold off Ursinus, 61-56, in their final game of the regular season. With its fifth straight win, Muhlenberg (20-5, 15-5) reached the 20-victory mark for the fifth straight season. In College athletic history, only one other team (volleyball from 1991 to 1995) has done that. Alexandra Chili led the Mules with 18 points, while Lindsay Teuber had 15 points and 21 rebounds for the Bears.

Franklin & Marshall 63, Dickinson 58
Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball team swept the series against Dickinson this season, and secured a first round Centennial Conference (CC) bye, with a 63-58 win Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats (18-7, 15-5 CC) will play Muhlenberg Friday at Johns Hopkins, while the Red Devils (3-22, 3-17) season comes to an end. Alexa Barbush led F&M with a game-high 24 points, the junior also contributed seven rebounds and four assists. Barbush concludes the week with 996 career points, four shy of 1,000. Bridget Borgese led the Red Devils with 17 points.

Washington College 73, Bryn Mawr 35
Host Washington College jumped out to a 36-5 halftime lead and rolled to a 73-35 Centennial Conference women's basketball win over visiting Bryn Mawr this afternoon in the season finale for both teams. The Shorewomen finish the season 16-9 overall and 11-9 in conference play, tying the program record for wins in a season and breaking the program record for conference wins in a season. Latisha Pledger led Washington with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Jackie Handy paced the Owls with 11 points.

McDaniel 52, Gettysburg 50
McDaniel built a 10-point first half lead and held on for a 52-50 Centennial Conference (CC) victory over Gettysburg in the season finale for both teams on Saturday. Senior Kelsey Franklin (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) netted 13 points in her final game for the Green Terror (11-14, 8-12 CC) while classmate Meg Biggart (Darien, Conn./Darien) chipped in a team-high seven rebounds – a total which matches her career high. Junior Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) led the way with a game-high 17 points. Sara Kinsley paced the Bullets (12-13, 10-10 CC) with a double-double, scoring 16 points to go with 14 rebounds.
