FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
- Muhlenberg (17) and Johns Hopkins (16) have appeared in the most Centennial tournaments. Haverford is making its first-ever Centennial playoff appearance. The Mules and the Blue Jays have met in the final eight times with 'Berg holding a 5-3 advantage.
- The Mules (6) and the Blue Jays (4) have combined for 10 Conference championships. Ursinus (1), Franklin & Marshall (0) and Haverford (0) have combined for one.
- McDaniel's Steph Perez leads all Centennial freshmen with a 14.4 ppg. scoring average. Teammate Emma Wingerd tops the rookie rebound chart as well (7.6).
- How important are the first 20 minutes? The five playoff teams have a combined 73-5 record when taking a lead to the locker room at halftime.
- Johns Hopkins is 24-4 at Goldfarb Gym over the last two seasons and 12-1 in 2011-12. The lone loss this season came against Haverford, while one of the three defeats a year ago was against Muhlenberg in the CC final.
Around the Conference
Bryn Mawr
Freshman Chantille Kennedy (New Castle, DE / Tatnall School) scored a career-high 10 points vs. Washington College. Sophomore Nicolette Parmese (Levittown, NY / Division) led the Owls in scoring (14.9) and rebounding (10.4) – one of three CC players averaging a double-double.
Dickinson
The Red Devils gave playoff-bound F&M all it could handle in its season finale before falling 63-58. Junior Dana Walsh (Malvern, PA / Great Valley) tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds, while classmate Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, PA / Notre Dame de Namur) tossed in 17 points. Borgese led the team in scoring (10.8), while Walsh topped the carom list (8.3).
Franklin & Marshall
The Diplomats are back in the Conference playoffs for a second straight season, earning the No. 2 seed with a win at Dickinson. Coach Kirsten Richter has won 31 games in her first two seasons at her alma mater – the most in the first two coaching campaigns in Lancaster since Noreen Pecsok won 35 in 1993 and 1994. Junior Alexa Barbush (Etters, PA / Trinity) is just four points shy of becoming the 13th player in F&M history to score 1,000 points.
Gettysburg
The Bullets missed the playoffs for just the second time in eight seasons, finishing below .500 for the first time since 2004. Senior Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, CT / Fairfield Ludlowe) had her ninth career double-double in her final game, scoring 16 points with 14 boards vs. McDaniel. Junior Alyssa Oursler (Middletown, MD / Middletown), who is graduating in three years, led the team in scoring at 10.8 ppg.
Haverford
The Fords are going to the Centennial playoffs for the first time in program history after a victory at Swarthmore. Haverford will play host to Ursinus in a first-round contest on Wednesday for the right to play top-seeded Johns Hopkins in the semifinals. Junior Dominique Meeks (Richmond, VA / Collegiate School) is 27 points shy of becoming the fifth Haverford player to score 900 in a career. She is averaging 15.8 points and 7.4 rebounds over her last five games.
Johns Hopkins
The Blue Jays registered their second consecutive 20-win season with victories over Franklin & Marshall and Bryn Mawr. It is the 12th time in 19 Centennial campaigns that Hopkins has won 20+ contests. Senior Chantal Mattila (Trappe, PA / Perkiomen Valley), who leads the team in scoring (12.8), had her six-game double-figure scoring streak broken against the Owls but handed out a season-best eight assists. Junior Alex Vassila (Potomac, MD / Winston Churchill) extended her double-figure scoring streak to 11 games.
McDaniel
Freshman Steph Perez (Harrisburg, PA / Central Dauphin East) set a school freshman record, closing the season with a 14.4 point per game average. Her 21-game double-figure scoring streak to open her career was snapped in the finale against Gettysburg. Senior Kelsey Franklin (Woodbine, MD / South Carroll) netted 13 points in her last collegiate game.
Muhlenberg
The Mules are back in the Conference playoffs for the seventh consecutive season after wins at Haverford and Ursinus. Muhlenberg reached the 20-win mark for the fifth straight season – just the second time in the College's athletic history a team has achieved that feat. Sophmore Colleen Caldwell (Lafayette Hill, PA / Springside School), who had not made both ends of a two-shot foul since Dec. 1, calmly drained a pair of charity tosses with :30 left to seal the win vs. the Bears.
Swarthmore
The Garnet finished under double-digits in victories for the first time since 2008. Sophomore Katie Lytle (Harrisburg, PA / Central Dauphin East) had 13 points and 10 rebounds vs. Bryn Mawr to finish with 12 double-doubles on the year. Freshman Elle Larsen (Perkasie, PA / Hempfield) had a strong first collegiate season, averaging 12.5 points and 6.1 rebounds.
Ursinus
The Bears return to the Conference playoffs for the second straight season, despite a pair of losses last week. It is the first time that Ursinus has made consecutive trips to the tourney since 1997 and 1998. Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, PA / St. Basil's) is 17 rebounds away from becoming the 22nd player in Conference history to collect 800 in a career. She had 15 points and 21 caroms vs. Muhlenberg for her 12th double-dobule of the season and 33rd for her career.
Washington College
The Shorewomen tied a program record with 16 wins on the season, equaling the total set by the 1997-98 team (16-8). Senior Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA / Oxford) closed her career with 1,068 points, 606 rebounds and 488 assists – just the second player in Centennial history with 1,000 points, 600 rebounds and 400 assists.
