Johns Hopkins, Muhlenberg Meet for Women's Title

Alex Vassila, Johns Hopkins; Alita Zabrecky, Muhlenberg

Johns Hopkins 55, Haverford 47
Junior Alex Vassila scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds and added four blocked shots to lead the 25th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's basketball team to a 55-47 victory over Haverford in the Centennial Conference Semifinals Friday evening at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The win, which avenges two earlier losses to the Fords this season, propels the Blue Jays into the conference championship game for the second consecutive year and the 13th time since 1994. In addition to Vassila's efforts, the Blue Jays got 13 points and nine assists from Stephanie Fong and eight points, eight rebounds and three assists from senior Chantel Mattiola. Rachel Baskin led the Fords with 14 points, while Elizabeth Lynch added 12 off the bench.

Muhlenberg 51, Franklin & Marshall 47
Junior Alita Zabrecky of the Muhlenberg women's basketball team has been known to chew gum during games. And when she does, she sometimes grabs Doublemint. During the Mules' Centennial Conference semifinal game against Franklin & Marshall, she and teammate Alexandra Chili would have been perfect spokespersons for the brand as they each doubled their pleasure and their fun by recording double-doubles to help Muhlenberg grab a 51-47 win. The victory moves the Mules on to their fifth straight conference championship game. Sticking with the double theme, for the second straight year, Muhlenberg, in search of its record seventh conference crown, will face Johns Hopkins on its home court. Megan Pauley led the Diplomats with 15 points.
