Gettysburg Secures Top Seed

Gettysburg 43, McDaniel 41
Sophomore Jenna Swope connected on a three-pointer with 14 seconds left and McDaniel’s final three-point attempt at the buzzer hit iron as the Gettysburg College women’s basketball wrapped up the top seed in the Centennial Conference with a 43-41 win over the Green Terror inside Bream Gym on Saturday. With the victory, Gettysburg (19-6, 16-4 CC) finishes with the best record in conference play and clinches the right to host the semifinals and championship of the Centennial Conference Tournament on Feb. 22-23. It is the first time the Bullets have claimed the top spot in the regular season and hosted the final two rounds. Jessica Porter finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Caroline Murphy added 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots and Swope turned in nine points and nine rebounds. McDaniel was led by Rachael Ryback who had 22 points and Emma Wingerd who collected 11 rebounds for the Green Terror.

A tough, defensive struggle ended with a game-winning three-pointer from Elizabeth Lynch as Haverford College's women's basketball team downed visiting Swarthmore, 45-41, in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
Both Haverford (15-9, 12-8 CC) and the Garnet (19-6, 15-5) will head into next week's Centennial playoffs, but the Fords will take the momentum from Saturday's hard-fought victory into the tournament while Swarthmore must regroup after the loss. Dominique Meeks, playing in her final game on the Gooding Arena floor, paced the Fords with 10 points and nine rebounds. Lynch and Calla Miller added nine points apiece with Shannon Smith coming away with eight more for the Fords. Miller also ripped down nine rebounds for Haverford. Katie Lytle finished with a double-double in Swarthmore's losing effort, pouring in game-highs in points, 18, and rebounds, 15.

Junior guard Kelly Mitchell scored a team-high 16 points in the win for Washington. The Diplomats finished out their season with an 8-17, 5-15 CC record while the Red Devils fell to 13-11, 9-11 CC.Alexa Barbush closed out her illustrious F&M career with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Muhlenberg 75, Ursinus 63
Muhlenberg celebrated senior day and the 75-63 victory over Ursinus on Saturday afternoon. Alita Zabrecky helped lead the Mules to the win by scoring 17 points in the first 20 minutes of action. She finished with a game-high of 21 and also added five assists and two steals. Although Ursinus (12-13, 9-11) never led, they limited Muhlenberg’s lead to single digits until the final 2:21 of the game. The Bears tied the score five times, but the Mules’ stingy defense prevented them from capitalizing on opportunities to take the lead. The Mules (17-8, 14-6) will begin playoffs with a game against second-seeded Swarthmore on Friday night at top-seeded Gettysburg.
