McDaniel Tops Gettysburg for Martin's 500th Win

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel methodically built a 25-16 advantage at halftime en route to a 53-38 win over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) tallied 19 points to lead the Green Terror (14-1, 8-1 CC), who remained tied for first place in the conference standings with the win. The victory was also the 500th for 34th-year head coach Becky Martin. Martin became the 26th coach in NCAA Division III women's basketball history to reach the milestone, doing it with an overall record of 500-332.

Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) added 15 points while Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) added 10 on 4-for-5 shooting.

Emily Gibbons led the Bullets (10-5, 5-5 CC) with 18 points off the bench.

Annie Reilly staked Gettysburg to a 2-0 lead 1:13 into the game before Nichols countered with a triple to give the hosts the lead for good.

Perez added the first of her two 3-pointers with 15:40 showing before a Nichols layup extended the lead to 8-2 with 13:24 showing.

Four straight points from March extended the advantage to 21-8 with 8:03 on the clock.

A Kim Ryan 3-pointer cut the deficit to nine at the break but baskets from March and Perez in the first minute of the second half pushed the lead back to 13.

Trailing 34-23, six points from Gibbons keyed an 8-0 run that closed the deficit to three with 9:05 to play.

On the ensuing McDaniel possession, Perez hit a jumper to spark a 7-0 counter over the next 2:09.

A Jessica Porter 3-pointer cut the deficit to 41-34 but a Nichols layup and March three-point play made it a 12-point game and sealed the win with 2:46 showing.

March added seven rebounds and three steals while Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) handed out seven assists.

McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
