Box Score

FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) scored 21 points and freshman Jamie Relin (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) hit the game-winning free throw with three seconds left to lift the Gettysburg College women's basketball team to a 59-58 victory over Susquehanna University at the Frostburg State University Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.

After watching host Frostburg State out-last Westminster College 73-69 in double overtime, Gettysburg (1-0) overcame an early deficit against Susquehanna (0-1). The Bullets trailed 21-12 with 8:11 left in the opening half before mounting a 22-3 run. Porter scored 10 points during the stretch, including each of the last six as Gettysburg walked into the locker room with a 32-24 lead.

The lead reached double-figures at 43-32 following another bucket by Porter at 11:42 of the second period. Susquehanna steadily chipped away at the deficit and an old-fashioned three-point play by Nikki Komara followed by two free throws by Jonaida Williams forced a tie at 47 with 5:24 remaining in the game.

The score was still deadlocked when junior Samantha Pagel (Harleysville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) scored back-to-back jumpers. Following a free throw by Komara, junior Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) canned a three-pointer and Relin posted a pair of free throws to push the lead to eight (58-50) with only 36 seconds left.

The Crusaders stayed in the game with help from the three-point arc as Angie Schedler and Komara both knocked down a pair of treys. After a missed free throw by Porter, Komara converted a lay-up to tie the game 58-58 with only 18 seconds left.

Relin was able to draw contact on the Bullets' ensuing possession with three seconds left. She hit the first free throw and missed the second, but not enough time remained for Susquehanna to get a clean look at the basket.

Coming off an injury-plagued sophomore campaign, Porter proved she was back to form with her first 20-point outing since netting 22 against William Paterson University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at the end of her freshman season. She finished 8-of-18 from the field and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Porter also grabbed eight rebounds and led the team with four assists and three blocked shots.

Duggan grabbed 10 rebounds and added seven points and three assists. Pagel and freshman Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) each contributed eight points and four rebounds, while Relin closed with nine points and four steals.

Komara recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for Susquehanna.

Gettysburg will face Frostburg in Sunday's title tilt at 4 p.m.
