The magical postseason run of the Muhlenberg women's basketball team finally came to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It came as no surprise that the Mules went down fighting.

Muhlenberg came back from big deficits twice but ultimately suffered a 69-54 loss to Geneseo, which advanced to the "Sweet 16" for a matchup with defending national champion FDU-Florham.

The Mules (21-8) have made a habit of playing behind this postseason, coming back from nine down to defeat McDaniel in the Centennial Conference championship game and 12 down to topple Cabrini in the NCAA first-round game. So when the Knights (25-4) went on a 14-0 run to open up an 18-5 lead a little more than six minutes into the game, the Mules had them right where they wanted.

A three-pointer by senior Abby Stenger kicked off an 11-0 run that got Muhlenberg back to within two. The Mules ultimately took a 22-21 lead on a pair of free throws by senior Leanna Tallamy with 4:38 left in the half and extended the margin to four on Tallamy's layup a minute later.

Geneseo hit four three-pointers in the last three minutes of the half to take a 35-31 lead into the break.

The spread was still four, at 40-36, early in the second half before the Knights went on a 16-2 run to seemingly put the game out of reach with an 18-point lead and just over eight minutes to play. But once again Muhlenberg showed its resilience. Back-to-back threes by Stenger started a 12-0 run that made it a 56-50 game with less than four minutes to play.

The Knights scored the next seven points, however, and sealed the game at the foul line in the last minute.

In the final game of her career, Tallamy led Muhlenberg with 17 points and 14 rebounds for her 20th double-double of the season. She broke the school record for rebounds in a season (322) and finished with 538 points, the second-highest single-season total in program history.

Stenger (pictured above) had a terrific two NCAA games and scored 11 in the last game of her career. Senior Laura Gregory had nine points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals, while senior Janelle Fleet contributed six points, three assists and two steals. Hannah Rush (four assists) and Nicole Pepe (three points) also closed out their careers.

The Class of 2015 finished with a four-year record of 77-33 and won two Centennial Conference championships.
