Bullets Surge Into Second Round; Blue Jays Edged by Mt. St. Mary

Gettysburg overcame a four-point halftime deficit to win by 33 points over Morrisville State, while Johns Hopkins was edged by Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) in the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament on Friday night. 

In Gettysburg, senior Carly Rice scored 21 points and freshman Mackenzie Szlosek put up 11 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists as the 25th-ranked Bullets bolted past Morrisville in the second half for a 77-44 victory. Gettysburg will now face 10th-ranked Baldwin Wallace, which defeated Salisbury 66-54, on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Gettysburg. 

In Baltimore, Johns Hopkins' season came to a close with a hard-fought 57-54 loss to Mount Saint Mary. Diarra Oden led the game with 21 points, pulled down eight rebounds and nabbed four steals in her final game as a Jay. Oden moves into 12th on the Jays all-time scoring list with 1,073 career points. Greta Miller gutted through an ankle injury to grab a career-high 13 rebounds. Johns Hopkins out-rebounded the Knights by 12, but the Knights had the advantage by 12 in the turnover department. 
 
JHU's season comes to a close at 22-5 overall. Mount Saint Mary and Christopher Newport will play a second round matchup in Goldfarb Saturday evening at 6 pm.
