GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior midfielder Steph Colson(Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) broke the program record for draw controls in a game and 11 different players scored goals as third-ranked Gettysburg College cruised to a 19-4 decision over Westfield State University in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Saturday at Clark Field.

With cooler temperatures and rain taking over Sunday, Gettysburg (17-2) remained hot coming on the heels of its Centennial Conference championship last weekend. The Bullets won 22-of-24 draws and forced Westfield State (18-3) into 15 failed clears.

Colson, the Most Valuable Player of last week's CC Championship, tracked down a program record 14 draw controls in the game, topping the previous record of 13 set by Megan Murphy '03 twice during the 2001 campaign. The junior seized nine draw controls in the opening half and snagged her record-breaking draw with just over five minutes left in the game. She added three goals, one assist, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Colson also became just the second Bullet to reach 100 career draw controls and is just seven shy of Murphy's season record of 116.

Senior Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and freshman Bri Stokes (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) each recorded hat tricks with the former dishing out two assists and the latter handing out one helper. Landry also moved into seventh on the program's all-time scoring list with 257 career points.

Sophomore Liza Barr (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and senior Maggie McClain (Wexford, Pa./Sewickley Academy) each produced two goals and two assists.

After playing a fast-paced contest in much warmer conditions against Morrisville State College yesterday, Westfield State found itself lagging behind the fresher legs of the Bullets from the opening draw. The difference was evident in the clears as Gettysburg forced the Owls to turn the ball over on each of the first two attempts up the field. Following the second failed clear, Landry tossed in the game's opening goal off a feed from Barr with 27:38 to go in the first half.

Trailing 6-0 less than eight minutes into the contest, Westfield State picked up its first tally on a goal by Maddie Bartkus with just over 20 minutes left in the first period.

The Bullets won the final nine draw controls of the opening half of play, leading to an 8-0 run. Stokes accounted for three of the goals, while Landry racked up two assists and a goal. Sydney Lambert scored for Westfield State just before the end of the half to make it 14-2.

Colson won each of the first four draws of the second half and Gettysburg continued to ruffle the Owls' feathers in the ride, causing six more turnovers on clears. Following a save by sophomore goalie Abbie Lee (Hingham, Mass./Hingham), sophomore Ella Orzechowski (Elkridge, Md./Howard) polished off the scoring for the hosts with 5:54 to play.

Gettysburg finished with a 37-8 advantage in shots and a 21-18 lead in ground balls.

Senior Elsie Wagner (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) picked up three ground balls and senior Ali Gorab (Southport, Conn./Ludlowe) and sophomore Claire Macatee (Street, Md./North Harford) each corralled a pair of ground balls. Macatee also recorded a caused turnover.

Junior Bailey Pilder (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) played the entire first half in goal to pick up the win. Sophomore Casey Cole (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) posted two saves in just over 20 minutes of action before giving way to Lee.
